Real Wedding – Brooke & Sam, Phillip Island VIC

Sam and Brooke always knew they wanted to be married by the beach. They have a shared love of Phillip Island, as it holds many happy memories, so Silverwater Resort in Sam Remo was the perfect choice to celebrate their love.

Hosting a ceremony with sweeping ocean views, they arrived in kombi vans, before sealing the deal in front of their family and friends in a sweet ceremony. Later they would hit the dancefloor and dance like they never had before while talented photographer Vanessa Norris and cinematographer Rachael Mary Films were there to capture all the love filled action!

IN BROOKES WORDS…

The meeting.

Sam and I were introduced at a friend’s party, by my cousin (Alisha), when I was 15 and Sam was 17. The rest is history.

The one.

We have had our ups and downs over the years but when I went overseas for a year in 2009, I think it made us both appreciate what we had and how much we missed one another. When I arrived home, things moved along quickly for us. We bought our first home the following year and then welcomed our first son, Taj, into the world in 2011 and our second son, Kai, in 2015.

The proposal.

Sam is a pretty relaxed guy and he was extremely relaxed when it came to proposing – it only took him about ten years! We had just finished renovating our first home together and we were having a party to celebrate with friends and family that had helped us along the way. The night before the party, I went for a run just before dark and when I got back Sam was sitting on the back deck with our son Taj who was two years old at the time. Sam said that Taj had something to show me and he held up a sign saying “Mummy, will you marry my Dad?” I have this sign on my pantry door and look at it daily. I’m usually a big crybaby but surprisingly I didn’t cry. I was just super excited (and still super sweaty from my run). We then jumped into the car and went around to my mum and dads place to celebrate! Little did I know that the party the next night was our surprise engagement party where we shared our news with all of our family and friends.

Style inspiration.

I would describe our wedding theme as bohemian and beachy.

The dress.

I bought my wedding dress second-hand off my beautiful friend Emma. It is the ‘Lottie’ White On White Gown by Melbourne designer Jane Hill. I have always been in love with her simple, yet elegant designs. I feel very lucky to have shared my dream wedding dress with such a special friend.

The planning.

Sam and I always knew we wanted to get married at Phillip Island. It’s such a special place for us as we spend so much time down there with our family and friends and just love hanging out at the beach. We had our ceremony at the San Remo Back Beach and got very lucky with a perfectly sunny afternoon where our guests enjoyed a few drinks before heading to the reception. It was tricky to find a reception venue that ticked all of the boxes on our wish list. We were incredibly lucky to find out that Silverwater Resort in San Remo were in the early stages of building a permanent marquee overlooking the ocean. It sounded too good to be true! We were the first couple to book a wedding in the marquee and couldn’t of be happier with how it turned out!.

Funny stories/ near disasters.

When I put my wedding dress on about half an hour before we had to leave, I suddenly broke out in a nervy, red rash on my neck and chest. I had never had one before and what a great time to get one! Thank god it went away and everything was ok.

Favourite moments.

I have so many great memories from our wedding day – but I would have to say that my favourite was the walk down the aisle with my Dad and son Taj and seeing Sam standing at the other end, waiting for me with a big cheeky grin on his face, holding our other son Kai. It was perfect! I remember thinking, after all of these years I can’t believe we are getting married!

Words of wisdom.

Your relationship is more important than the day. It is only one day out of the next 50 plus years you will spend together so respect each others opinions and don’t stress about the little things.
