Real Wedding – Diana & Tim, West Melbourne VIC

Diana and Tim enlisted the help of family and friends and created a simple, yet beautiful celebration in a wonderful warehouse in West Melbourne.

Describing their style as modern rustic with Scandinavian simplicity, this pair used bunches of greenery to set the scene.

Hitting the dance-floor early in the evening, Diana choreographed a dance full of fun and laughter and Mavis Jean Photography captured all the delightful moments.

In Tim and Diana’s words…

The meeting.

We met at a bar in Chapel Street, Melbourne and I knew he was the ‘one’ on our first holiday to Fiji.

The proposal.

Tim made an A0 sized poster saying “will you marry me Dee Dee”, framed it and wrapped it. It was presented to Diana and she unwrapped it in our new apartment.

Planning process.

We forced Tim’s parents to investigate a number of places around Melbourne as we were still living in Sweden. We sent a lot of emails and made a lot of Skype calls. Nearly all the planning was complete when we moved back to Melbourne two months before the wedding. We did all the venue decoration ourselves.

Style inspiration.

Modern rustic mixed with Scandinavian simplicity. Eucalyptus and soft whites were the tones for the day.

The dress.

Diana and her sisters went bridal shopping for many months until she finally found the store (Karim Designs) in Copenhagen. He Is very flexible and was able to modify the dress to include a number of features the she liked.

Favourite moment.

All of it. Literally so much fun the whole time.

Meaning of marriage.

The act of marriage was not a critical factor for us, we just wanted a long party with family and friends and wanted to use the words “husband and wife”.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Tim was very nervous about the wedding dance – Diana did all the choreography and Tim has two left feet. But it was Diana that missed a few steps, though no one noticed, and we shared a laugh together after.

Planning surprises.

The day went so quickly. Before we realised it the dance floor was in full swing.

You can do a lot of it yourself with a little planning and help from friends and family. You can save a few dollars and it gives the whole day a personal feel.
