Real wedding – Jess & Dan, Jan Juc VIC

Pulling together a perfect Tribe of vendors meant Jess and Dan could sit back and enjoy their wedding celebrations, knowing they were in the best care.

The Jan Juc Surf Lifesaving Club provided the perfect back drop for the laid back party vibe that was essential for this relaxed couple. The use of gorgeous green plants and perfect pops of florals, sourced from Tribe favourites Olive Green Plant and Prop and She’s a Wildflower provided the wow factor that kept their guests smiling from ear to ear.

Hails & Shine were there to capture the day in all its authentic beauty.

IN JESS’ WORDS…

The meeting.

Dan and I met at The ‘Nash’ Hotel at a hip hop gig, four years ago

Finding ‘the one’.

It was probably after a few dates, we went for a walk on the beach with my dog Daisy. I had never felt more comfortable or on the same wavelength with anyone like I did with Dan.  Since then, there have been a myriad of moments that have reinforced this feeling.

The proposal.

I was nearly full-term in my first pregnancy, we went for a swim with our two dogs at Pt Addis (our favourite beach).  I didn’t have the slightest clue what was going on.  Dan  had put the ring on one of dog’s collars but he was going too crazy and I didn’t notice.  Dan then got down on one knee and asked if I would marry him, (I was like, ‘of course I will marry you’ – not understanding that he was officially asking at that time) – and then I saw the ring, and him kneeling on the sand. It was completely unexpected!  Dan then unpacked a mini bottle of Veuve and we had a cheeky celebratory drink and swim.  It was absolutely perfect and such a beautiful surprise.

The planning.

We knew we wanted a cruisy, informal and fun affair. We opted for no bridal party – it was way too hard to pick a select few friends each, we are so fortunate to have a great bunch of friends and siblings. We invested in pulling together an incredible Tribe of vendors that really helped us create the perfect day – scroll below photos to read all about Jess and Dan’s Tribe and the lovely words they have to say.

Style inspiration.

Relaxed, informal and salty, with traditional elements.
The dress.

Lui at The Bridal Atelier had me completely sorted – one shop, six dresses, and eventually the most perfect dress found.  I wanted a traditional dress with contemporary elements, and it had to be something I could both dance, an pick my daughter up in.  It had a nude silk slip, with a full length lace overlay – the detail is spectacular and timeless.  I am actually completely obsessed with it!

Favourite moments.

Our vows and ring exchange.

Traditions.

We did a parent’s blessing within the ceremony – our families are so important to us we thought this was a good opportunity to bring them into our day.

The meaning of marriage.

Love, happiness and commitment – not only to each other but to our family and everything we stand for.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Whatever by Aaliyah

Signing: A Beach Boys mash-up

Post-formalities: Aural Pleasure by Blackilicious

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Absolutely none apart from those mentioned in our speeches.  The weather was very very kind and put on the most tremendous spring day imaginable.

Words of wisdom.

Try not to over complicate things – it just makes for more work and can create undue stress.

JESS AND DAN’S TRIBE…

Ceremony and reception location: Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Clubthe view is something else! We loved the space – lawn at the front of the club perfect for ceremony, beautiful back deck overlooking the golf club, good indoor space with bar and decent kitchen. Absolutely awesome to work with, made our day come together so well having the flexibility to set up the day before.

Celebrant: Lana Ryderas soon as we met we just knew she would really set the tone of our wedding perfectly.  She made us both really really excited to actually get married. Lana nailed our ceremony. It was the best possible representation of Dan and I – traditional, with light-hearted moments.

Photography: Hails and Shine.  We were so fortunate to be able to book Hails and Shine for photography. We really wanted our photographer to be able to capture moments throughout our wedding and they are beyond incredible at that. Our photos are beyond anything we could have hoped for – they captured everything! Dan and I felt unusually comfortable in front of the camera, and we are so grateful for their magic.

Styling: Katie Heane of Olive Green Plant and Prop, made the surf club ‘un-surf club-like’ and so, so stunning. We were absolutely obsessed with our aisle features and plant alter. Katie was so capable in helping us with so many aspects of our day and we loved her ability to define spaces and create something so stunning and so unique. I was literally blown away with what she brought to the wedding, and absolutely in LOVE with her hanging pots! As soon as the hanging pots went up it completely transformed the interior space.

Lighting and furniture hire: Pepper Sprout Hire.

Florist: She’s a Wildflower – she is my floral obsession. Our blooms were bright and ridiculously beautiful. Not a typical bridal bouquet  – which was what I was after – that included my favourite, waratahs.

Hair and make-up: Hair by Hannah at Hidden Minx and make-up by Ebony Stirling. Both girls completely nailed what I was after.

The Dress: Rue de Seine via The Bridal Atelier.

Headwear:  A vintage hair piece borrowed from a friend.

Shoes: Sol-Sana.

Rings: The amazing crew at Solid Gold Diamonds Perth provided our rings couldn’t be happier with them.

Groom’s suit and shoes: Eddie Elias Menswear.

Catering: Empire Grill – couldn’t recommend them more highly. Such a smooth operation, delicious food –  plenty of it, and the most friendly, professional staff. I thought it was too good to be true – it absolutely wasn’t!

Stationery and Signage: Miriam McWilliam of Mimi – Myrtle  + Co. Her stationery really set the tone of our day – bright, cheerful and fun.

Entertainment: DJ – Tommy Arnold.

Transport: Vintage cars provided by family friends.

Honeymoon: Samoa via The Perfect Wave.
