Real Wedding – Lucy & Shane, Anglesea VIC

Inspired by the beauty of The Great Ocean Road, Lucy and Shane couldn’t think of any place better to be wed than on a relative’s private property in Bells Beach. It was the perfect opportunity for groom Shane, to show off the beauty of Victoria to his Queensland relatives – and boy did they show off!

With bride Lucy in a stunning gown by One Day Bridal, this duo and their darling day are sure to leave you smiling.

In Lucy’s words…

The meeting.
When I first moved to London in 2010, I heard about a room that was available for short term rent through a friend. It turned out to be Shane’s room, which I sub-letted from him while he travelled through Iceland and Norway. I stayed in his room for about 3 weeks but never met him during this time. About a year later we met in a pub through friends. We got along really well, and not long after we became housemates. A few months after that we both realised how much we liked each other and became a couple.

The proposal.

We were staying at my parent’s house in Anglesea for a week during summer. One morning we went for a run and walk along the beach which had become a bit of a routine for us during the week. We both went for a swim in the Ocean after our run, and when we returned from the swim and came back to our clothes and there was a glass bottle with a ring inside sitting in my shoe. I started crying and immediately said yes. We kept the news to ourselves for a few days and ended up telling my parents when we were out for dinner at A La Grecque (where we ended up having our reception). A few days later we flew to Queensland to tell Shane’s family and friends.

Style inspiration.

Shane and I visit my parents in Anglesea almost every other weekend, and we absolutely love the coast. Hence, we were very keen to have a wedding down there, so Shane’s family and friends (from Queensland) could see where we spend lots of our time and experience the beauty of the Great Ocean Road. We’ve also always been so blown away by my Auntie’s and Uncles paddock in Bells Beach, it’s the perfect mix of bush, paddock and breathtaking ocean views, it seemed like the perfect place for our ceremony. We also are avid foodies and eat at A La Grecque often. It was the perfect choice for our reception. Overall the style of our wedding really was a reflection of who we are as a couple; we love the outdoors and the beach, we’re relaxed and casual, we love good food, and we love to have a couple, and to have a good time.

The dress.

My dress was made by One Day Bridal. I initially tried on a few different styles at various places that I thought would look really good, but ended up feeling uncomfortable and just not like me! When I tried on my dress for the first time, I was with my bridesmaids and they all instantly said ‘Troupy, that is so you!’ I felt completely comfortable and it matched my style perfectly, it was a little bit different but still classic at the same time. It felt like it would be very easy to dance in which was really important. The girls at One Day Bridal are all really lovely, and made the whole experience fun and not stressful at all.

Words of wisdom.

Enjoy every minute – it goes so fast!

Dress: One Day Bridal

Styling and Planning: Ourselves

Pinyata: Made by the bride, Lucy!

Music: Ben Dew played an acoustic set at the ceremony. Jack Robins is a local guy who used to be in a band with my cousin. He did an acoustic set at the reception, and then a dance set (with my cousin Alex on drums) later in the night. We also had Bertie (my cousin’s husband) do a DJ set. Bert was a house DJ in the 90’s and still loves it!
