Real Wedding – Maya & Kate, Collingwood VIC

What better way to share our excitement and celebrate our recent change in marriage legislation than showing off the stunning Collingwood celebration of Maya and Kate.

Pulling it all together in just three months, a flawlessly frocked-up Maya and Kate, with their impeccable styling and an entertainment line-up to impress, truly threw their guests a party to remember.

For Maya and Kate it was important to simply be in the moment, with each other and their guests. The relaxed and romantic vibe only added to atmosphere.

The love in the room simply radiates in their images, captured by Jackson Grant.

In Maya’s words…

The meeting.

We met at a mutual friend’s 30th birthday in November 2014. Our connection was undeniable and it was on!

‘The one’.

There was simply a feeling that we had to be together.

The proposal.

Kate proposed while we were on holiday in the snowy Scottish Highlands in January 2019. With the dramatic landscape of the highlands, it couldn’t have been more romantic.

The process.

We are both very organised women, and it all just came together. We are moving to Spain in August (after we spend a month in Greece for our honeymoon), so we didn’t want to plan a big wedding for a full year. We gave ourselves three months.  It helps to have the same taste and two brides!

Style inspiration.

Our dress code was lounge glam and ready to party. And the venue and mood was elegant yet relaxed. We wanted a venue in the inner-Northern suburbs of Melbourne that was easy to travel to for our guests, shared our aesthetic and one that could house a ceremony and reception – we didn’t want to leave our beloved guests at any point nor ask them to travel in between the ceremony and reception.

The dress.

At first we tried to buy off the rack but it proved a little tricky and given our tight timelines, we asked a friend of a friend to make our dresses.

Favourite moments.

Getting ready together and spending the morning with our best men, followed by the ceremony. The speeches were incredible. We actually loved everything about the day, couldn’t possibly choose!

Meaning of marriage.

Kate means everything to me.

Wedding soundtrack.

String quartet played before and after the ceremony and a trumpet heralded the procession.

After the ceremony we mingled with guests and were incredibly lucky to have the very talented Alinta Chidzy (represented by CP Management) singing female power ballads.

After our sit-down dinner we had two DJ’s – @jlaw__ and @whiskey_houston pumping out the disco and party tunes.

Our first dance was to Nina Simone ‘Feelin’ Good’.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Speakers should prepare to be heckled by a cheeky grandmother 😉

Words of wisdom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Try to stay in the moment as much as you can.

MAYA & KATE’S TRIBE

Ceremony and reception: Rupert on Rupert, Collingwood – Mali was terrific – supportive, communicative, excellent at her job and with style to boot. We were in great hands and always felt that way.

Celebrant / Officiant: Megan Thompson. We could not praise Megan enough, our ceremony was perfect – the entire room was in tears and our guests have made a special effort to let us know that the ceremony was unique, joyous and the perfectly told our love story.

Photography: Jackson Grant was an absolute gem. Such beautiful energy to have by our side on the day and we couldn’t be happier with our photos.

Florist: Flos Botanical. Viv’s bouquet and flower arrangements were breathtaking, she nailed it.

Hair: Fake Blonde. We could not love Claire Harrington of Fake Blonde more. Absolute legend and brilliant stylist. We loved our hair.

Make-up: Marie Poulos was recommended to us by a friend that works at MECCA. We’ve both never felt or looked more beautiful.

The Dress: Jason Hewitt Bride.

Shoes: Kate wore Preston Zly and Maya wore See by Chloe

Rings: Katherine Bowman is a bespoke Melbourne jeweller. We love her aesthetic, style and she made the experience of designing our rings incredibly special. Katherine also designed our engagement rings and we feel incredibly privileged that she was part of our journey.

Kate wore earrings by Katherine Bowman. Maya wore earrings by Linden Cook.

Groomsman’s suit:  Hugo Boss and Paul Smith.

Catering: Rupert on Rupert

Stationery / Signage: we did ourselves

Entertainment: String quartet and Alinta Chidzey (singer)

Honeymoon: We mini-mooned on the Mornington Peninsula for three nights after the wedding – enjoyed wineries and the beaches. Then in July we’ll honeymoon in Greece for a month before moving permanently to Spain.
