Real Wedding – Mitch & Adi, St Kilda VIC

We adore Mitch and Adi’s approach to their wedding day – vowing that it would be relaxed, full of love, respectful of tradition, yet relevant.

Through gorgeous styling, and an obvious outpouring of love and emotion, this St Kilda celebration  saw Mitch and Adi’s loved ones treated a day to remember.

Behind the lens was It’s Beautiful Here, and they have done this darling day true justice.

In their words…

The meeting.

We’ve known each other since high school, about year 9 – we met through mutual friends, yet didn’t start dating until the first year of university. We’ve been together ever since.

‘The one’.

Mitch – I don’t think I have a single defining moment, but something that really stands out for me is the first time we went overseas together. Obviously travelling together and spending all day every day with each other is a good test, but in our first trip we found ourselves in a bit of a daunting situation on arrival. We were both freaking out a bit but Adi kept her cool and was massively supportive – we managed to sort out the mess and in hindsight it worked out perfectly. I knew then that I’d found an incredibly strong and dependable woman who’d make an amazing wife.

Adi – I knew pretty early on that Mitch was unlike anyone I had met before. I know I was only young and there was no exact moment, but as the saying goes, when you know, you know. I would say after a few months of dating I knew was going to marry Mitch.

The proposal.

Mitch proposed next to the beach on the Sunshine Coast. We had just had a very casual dinner and on the way back home, walking along the boardwalk he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. It was perfect.

The process.

We’re pretty organised people, therefore it was a checklist which we committed to and ensured we were on top of weekly. A key criteria for us was reliable suppliers who we could trust and frequently communicated. I can honestly say all our suppliers blew us away and really alleviated the stress in the lead up to the big day.

Style inspiration.

We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we are and our relationship. We wanted the day and styling to be warm, relaxed, full of love, respectful of tradition yet relevant.

The dress.

My outfit was simple but reflective of my style. I wanted a dress and accessories that I could look back on over the years and never tire of. Classic, elegant and understated. I always knew I wanted something fitted, backless and all lace. As soon as I saw Jane Hill’s designs I knew that’s where I would be getting my dress from. It was the only place I looked and was the second dress I tried on. Olivia at Jane Hill was so helpful and friendly which made the experience all the more enjoyable.

Favourite moments.

Once all the formalities were done and we were able to let our hair down with our family and friends and really take in the enormity of the day.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage means embracing each other at your best or worst, pushing and supporting each other to be better people, achieving your dreams together, and being reliable, accessible and loyal.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Ave Maria

Reception Entry: The Girl by City and Colour

First dance: Cant take my eyes off you by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons

Funny stories (or near disasters).

We had crazy weather – it started off quite hot and sunny, then as we were trying to get family photos after the ceremony the heavens opened – there was about 30mm of rain in three hours. Luckily we had a canapes and cocktail stop booked at Acland St Cantina where we ate, drank, laughed and relaxed all together as a bridal party. In hindsight these are now some of our favourite photos as they really capture the essence of our day.

The rain then cleared up at the start of the reception and we had the most magical sunset and calm evening. The rain was definitely worth it to get a night like that!

Words of wisdom .

You’ll get a million people offering advice or preferences, but just do what makes you happy – you’ll never please everyone. And most importantly never lose sight of why you’re getting married. Try not to get caught up in everything that comes with planning the day and don’t lose sight of what’s important.

Groomsmen’s suits: Suit Shop – the boys here sorted me the sharpest and best fitting tux. Their attention to detail and quality is next level.
