Real Wedding – Tarryn & Charlie, Melbourne CBD VIC

As soon as Charlie popped the question, glowing bride-to-be Tarryn set about creating a modern bohemian dream in the city of Melbourne.

Dressed in a stunning Rue De Seine gown that encompassed sequins and bell sleeves, she perfected her look with a sweet flower crown made lovingly by friends, who also weaved their magic with the bold blooms that dotted their ceremony and reception.

Trunk, the inner city restaurant and bar, was the perfect backdrop for this loved-up celebration captured by the magic touch of Nick Addison.

IN TARRYN’S WORDS…

The meeting.

We met through mutual friends nearly 8 years ago.

The ‘one’.

I knew Charlie was the one a few months after we started dating. He made me a mixed CD of acoustic songs from one of my favorite bands, The Kooks – I still have the CD in my car.

The proposal.

We had been together six and a half years and I had been dropping hints for a good six months prior, so I knew it was coming. It was my 30th birthday and Charlie took me to Wye River for a surprise weekend away. Indie (our adorable pet dog groodle) came along too, of course! We drove down Friday afternoon and checked into a beautiful holiday home overlooking the beach at Wye River.

Not long after getting there, he suggested we take Indie down to the beach for a swim. When we got there we found a secluded spot on the beach and Charlie and Indie went straight in for a swim. I’d never been to Wye River and couldn’t get over how pretty it was so I was taking happy snaps when Charlie yelled out from the water saying how nice and warm it was. After a little convincing I decided to walk in, and before I knew it he was down on one knee pulling a ring box out of the front of his pants! I couldn’t help but burst into laughter as he said, “Tarryn Rice, will you marry us (him and Indie).” I had a look at the ring and without hesitation said YES! We both laughed at how surreal the whole thing felt! After calling our family and friends we went to Wye River Pub for dinner and drinks at sunset.

The next day to my surprise Charlie had arranged for my family and closest friends to surprise me at the house so we celebrated with lots and lots of fancy champagne!

The planning.

I planned my own wedding and to be totally honest, the process started before I was even engaged! I just knew from day one the look and feel I wanted.

Style inspiration.

My theme was Modern Bohemian. I drew my inspiration from soft whites and bold florals.

The dress.

My dress was by Rue De Seine. Always a lover of anything boho, I knew from day one that I wanted to wear something by the talented New Zealanders. I chose the Zeppelin Gown from the Nomadic Love collection. Sequins, bell sleeves, flowy & dreamy – it was love at first sight.

Favourite moments.

Without a doubt when I turned the corner to walk down the aisle arm in arm with my Dad and saw Charlie (a sobbing mess) standing in the middle of the most beautiful and perfect set-up. I had a vision in my head for the year leading up to the wedding, and in that moment it was so much more than I could have ever imagined.

Traditions.

My Dad walked me down the aisle, and I chose to sleep at my parents’ house the night before the wedding to keep with tradition of not seeing the groom until I walked down the aisle.

Meaning of marriage.

Building a life together.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle – The Wedding Song – Angus and Julia Stone. I was lucky enough to have Frankie Andrew from Isla Ka sing and play acoustically as I walked down the aisle; it was such a special moment.

Ceremony exit – “Home” by Edward Sharp & The Magnetic Zero’s.

First dance – “I can’t help myself” by The Temptations.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

To be totally cliché – everything went to plan! My mum, sister and best friend were the ultimate support team.

Words of wisdom.

Give yourself a moment to take it all in on your wedding day. It is such an amazing feeling to look around the room during the reception knowing that it is filled with people who truly mean something to you.

One last thing.

We wrote our own vows, drawing inspiration from “The Wedding Song” which I walked down the aisle to. We had two readings, “Live for the little things” and also “The chaos of stars”.

TARRYN AND CHARLIE’S TRIBE

Location:  Trunk, in Melbourne’s CBD. It just oozes the laid-back, carefree and effortless vibe we were after in a venue. The ceremony was followed by drinks/canapés held in the front courtyard, reception in the main hall, and speeches/cutting of the cake in the diner. Moving between settings created a really fun vibe for our guests – it got them in the mood to dance the night away.

Celebrant: Our celebrant was the gorgeous Jo Betz. Jo was a dream to work with; the ceremony flowed brilliantly with the perfect balance of laughter and tears.

Photography: Nick Addison. We sat down with Nick just before the wedding and went through some moodboards I had put together. We wanted to look back on our photographs as the happiest of moments – he totally nailed it.

Styling: I planned my own wedding and the styling on the day was done by a very talented close friend of mine, Carli, from The Little Big Stylist, who completely transformed our venue into something special.

Florist: My florist was one of my best friends and her mum, from Norma Anne Flowers in Melbourne’s West. The bouquets were filled with bright colored blooms.

Norma Anne Flowers also styled the arbor, wishing well, and chalkboard. The long tables of the reception hall we’re adorned in jars of beautiful bright blooms. The combination of flowers gave an inspired boho feel.

Hair and makeup: My beautiful friend and hairdresser Grace Dunne gave me effortless loose curls that sat perfectly with my flowercrown headband by Norma Anne Flowers. The bridesmaids all wore flowers in their hair with a mix of braids and soft up-do’s.

I wanted to keep our make-up simple for the day, and my MUA Jess did a fantastic job. I wanted to ensure that my bridesmaids and I still looked like ourselves. The soft tones on our faces really made the flowers in our hair pop.

Pre-wedding robes – Natalija The Label.

The Dress: Rue De Seine

Headwear: Norma Anne Flowers designed me the most beautiful flowercrown headband. The flowers they used complimented my bouquet, and of course added to the boho feel of my dress.

Accessories: I chose Samantha Wills bridal for earrings for myself and my bridesmaids. I also wore a very special family heirloom – my Nan’s engagement ring.

Shoes: Tony Bianco and Wittner.

Rings: I chose a white gold twisted band, and Charlie a white gold standard band, both from the talented Anny at Mavro Jewellery.

Bridesmaid’s dresses: My gorgeous bridesmaids wore soft, flowy white Tigerlily maxi dresses. Tigerlily is one of my favorite labels so I felt like it was a reflection of me for the girls to wear something that I loved so much.

Groom’s suit: Charlie’s suit was a custom design from Suit Shop. He went for a tweed look. Bow tie and pocket square from OTAA, arrow cufflinks from Northwood Collective.

Groom’s shoes: Windsor Smith.

Groomsmen suits: The groomsmen wore Country Road chinos and H&M blazers.

Bow ties/pocket squares from Hankincheif, arrow cufflinks from Northwood Collective.

Pageboy: My pageboy/ring bearer was my beautiful two-year-old nephew, Lincoln. He wore Country Road chinos, a Seed white shirt, and a bowtie / pocket square from Hankincheif to match the Groomsmen. Adorable!

Catering: The food at Trunk was first class. We started with canapés served in the courtyard immediately following the ceremony. It was a beautiful balmy Melbourne night. We had a sit down entrée and main menu, roaming desserts, and cake to take home.

Favors: We decided to use an instagram printer as our wedding favors for something a little different. Social Playground had an attendant at the reception encouraging guests to take photos on social media using the hashtag #charlielovestarryn. They also went around the room with an iPad throughout the night taking snaps. The photos printed out instantly in a custom designed Polaroid for guests to take home. After the wedding we received all the photos both printed and in digital form. My mum also had some custom-made thank-you bags made up from Etsy for the take home cake.

Cake: My amazing mum made my wedding cake, with flowers by Norma Anne Flowers. Two tiers – chocolate ganache, and the extremely popular banana & salted caramel with cream!

Stationery / Signage: Our wedding invitations we’re one of my favorite things about the wedding, from Mooseberry Paper Co.

We used paddles as our programs for the ceremony, they we’re a custom design from ConfettiDesignCo on Etsy. It was a warm day in Melbourne so they doubled nicely as fans to cool guests down.

Entertainment: We had an acoustic set from Frankie Andrew (Isla Ka) while guests had pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the courtyard. I created my own Spotify playlist for background music during our meals and then we switched over to a DJ for the reception. Caitlin played a mixture of old and new songs.

Transport: Again, we kept it simple with black Lexus hire cars.
Honeymoon: We spent the first part of our honeymoon in one of our favorite places, Byron Bay. We stayed at The Atlantic and spent the majority of our week there seaside enjoying the glorious weather. We were also lucky enough to dine at Rae’s during our stay. The second part of our honeymoon was spent in Noosa with our two best friends. It was great to be able to spend some time alone with our besties post-wedding!
