How did your love of fashion come about and what inspired the creation of SoHo Bride?

As a child, I remember dressing up in my Mum’s dresses and shoes, I guess I’ve always had a love of fashion. In 2007 I created my first website and named it Ardor, I started selling Australian designer fashion online. Working with labels such as, Alex Perry, Rachel Gilbert and Ellery, to name a few, my love and appreciation for beautiful clothing grew.

I wouldn’t say it’s all about the ‘fashion’ as such, but the beautiful fabrics and unique styles and shapes in clothing fascinates me. There is nothing more beautiful than a woman in a perfectly fitted dress, one that complements her shape and style. I always thought about opening a boutique, but it wasn’t until the loft space in Rutland Street in Newtown became available to rent that I really had the vision for SoHo bride.

I chose Bridal, Bridesmaid and Event wear because I envisioned the space to be an exclusive, by-appointment boutique. It was the perfect canvas to create something for the modern, chilled out bride.

How did the name SoHo come about?

Being a loft space, I wanted to draw inspiration from New York when choosing a name. I delved into the history of Lower Manhattan’s trendy neighbourhood SoHo, and discovered it had been the location of many artists’ lofts and art galleries, but is now better known for its variety of boutiques. As Rutland Street is Geelong’s precinct of art galleries, loft spaces and studios, I couldn’t imagine a more suited name. I later realised that SoHo was also an abbreviation for ‘style of her own’, which pretty much sums up the SoHo bride.

What inspired the space?

When I discovered that the loft space was available, ideas for a unique bridal and event wear lounge began to flow. So in actual fact, it was the location which inspired the boutique.

What can a bride expect to experience from the moment she steps inside SoHo Bride?

A unique experience, created for her alone. SoHo bride is for the bride with a ‘style of her own’, therefore the experience is her own. It is exclusive, so the bride can expect that the entire space is for her and her friends and family. Appointments never double up. Attention is solely focused on the styling of the bride or her bridesmaids. I supply complimentary champagne, coffee and snacks and allow large blocks of time for each appointment, so nothing ever feels rushed. I also

What influences your choice in dress designers?

I’m influenced by unique styles, fashion trends and simplicity. I’m a firm believer that less is more, and each piece is selected with this in mind. Having said that, I’m a lover of quality lace and a ‘good back’, be it completely open, or beautifully detailed. I’m also influenced by price, while a bride can expect to find all price ranges, it’s important to me that I have a large selection under $1,000 and between $2,000 and $4,000. I will be introducing high-end collections, over $5,000, in my next buy season.

What are your opening hours and how can a bride book an appointment?

Monday to Friday (excluding Tuesdays, I take appointments from 1pm-7pm and Saturday 10am-5pm. Customers can call 03 5298 1225 to make a booking directly with me. Alternatively, jump on the website, www.sohobride.com.au and click on MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, to find available contact details and an online booking facility – I try to make it as easy as possible!

How many people can attend an appointment?

I don’t have a limit set for how many people can attend an appointment, I have the space to hold large groups. Having said this, it is my recommendation to keep it to a minimum, especially for wedding dress styling, too many opinions can become very overwhelming for the bride.

We hear there’s an opportunity to snap up a bargain online, please share more!

Over the past few years, I’ve been at home while having my two babies. During this time, I created a small, made-to-order collection of Bridal & Event wear. I’m getting ready for some cool new pieces, so to make some room I have an exclusive online sample sale. These pieces are in ‘as new’ condition, they have not been used in store and were only worn once for a photo-shoot I used for my online look-book.

What truly sets SoHo Bride apart?

The SoHo experience is unique and bespoke. Not only is your appointment customised to suit your style, but all of our dresses can be custom designed and styled in many different ways. The extent of which, can only be discovered by attending a styling session. We have numerous sleeves, belts, sashes, skirts, tops and slips, to create hundreds of different, unique looks.
