Home to one of the world’s most scenic coastal drives, the Surf Coast is a rugged and natural beauty and it is any wonder that couples are so attracted to celebrating their wedding day in and around such spectacular coast line.
Extending along the world-renowned Great Ocean Road, as well as encompassing cosy inland towns, we were blown away by the gorgeous locations on offer, and found we felt increasingly relaxed as we wound our way along the coast.
For couples considering wedding venues on the Surf Coast, here is our pick of the bunch.
Upon entering the driveway of Mt Duneed Estate, the eye is drawn to the expanse of sprawling vines and impressive building. Couples can be romantically married in the olive groves, create photographic memories amongst the vines and choose between two stunning settings in which to continue the celebrations – the rustically-inspired Barrel Room or the relaxed, yet elegant Vineyard Room.
Offering panoramic views across Louttit Bay and just metres from the sand, Lorne Beach Pavilion is a real standout. Appealing to couples looking for a sea change, the area is light and modern and encompasses folding glass doors that open out to a large courtyard area, taking you one step closer to the beach and of course, allowing guests to take in the fresh coastal air.
The West Coast’s premier art venue, Qdos Arts is surrounded by the Great Otway National Park, a unique moderate climate rainforest. Their ampitheatre in the ‘cathedral of trees’ is ideal for a ceremony with wow-factor, followed by a gorgeous reception in the gallery. Priding themselves on exceptional event management, Qdos is ideal for couples looking to celebrate in a natural bush setting, in a stunning, secluded location that is far removed from the hustle and bustle.
Bellbrae Harvest is set on a picturesque 15-acre property nestled among the trees and a water-lily filled dam. Weddings take place in a rustic mudbrick restaurant and can spill out onto the sun-drenched terrace. With a seasonally-driven menu featuring only local wines, Bellbrae Harvest is the perfect place for relaxed and intimate weddings.
Located on the sand dunes, the new architecturally-designed Fairhaven Surf Club boasts uninterrupted views spanning from Aireys Inlet Lighthouse through to the Lorne foreshore. It’s a unique and special wedding venue that is sure to delight guests. The space requires minimal styling as the beautiful design of the room, as well as the views, truly speak for themselves.
For those couples passionate about getting back to basics and the importance of sustainability and community, The Farmer’s Place will certainly appeal. Locally sourced produce combined with the country paddock setting, this venue lends itself nicely to those couples searching for a casual and relaxed celebration.
With a view overlooking berry orchards and the paddocks beyond, Ravens Creek Farm really is a unique and picturesque wedding venue. Able to host ceremonies and receptions, the shed and verandah can accommodate a cocktail-style wedding, though there’s also the option to erect a marquee. A super sweet spot for a relaxed couple, the farm has a rustic and casual vibe.
Set at the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, RACV Torquay Resort offers a variety of areas for couples to be married and then celebrate into the night, while having access to luxurious accommodation for themselves and their guests. Indulgent menus, stylish architecture and modern decor, this venue really offers it all.
Overlooking Bass Strait, set high in the Otways above the Great Ocean Road, Chris’s Beacon Point Restaurant is a gourmet delight. The restaurant boasts ceiling high windows and radiates a light and airy feel with breathtaking views. Accommodation is on offer, only a few steps away from the restaurant, and makes for a real wedding getaway.
