Wedding venues – Ballarat & surrounds

Those who have popped into Ballarat recently would know it’s no longer just gold among the hidden gems.

There’s the delicious abundance of local produce – think truffles, olives and Pyrenees sparkling – and afterwards, the most beautiful boutique apartments to sleep off your indulgences.

And for those walking down the aisle, the regional city has an impressive line-up of venues perfect to say I do.

Ivory Tribe contributor Jenna Meade drops by to explore the loveliest local spots for your dream day.

It’s just a stone’s throw from the city centre, but once inside this oasis you’ll instantly be transported to another world. Bluestone walls, lush greenery and willow trees frame the perfect site to start your happily ever after. Opt for a garden gathering, set up a marquee or chat to the owners about what you have in mind for the serene space.

Stepping inside this industrial chic wine bar is like stepping into a little pocket of bustling Melbourne. Right in the heart of the city, the 120-year-old building oozes charm with its contemporary exposed brick and luxe black steel touches. And that’s just the ground floor. Upstairs the Seamstress Floor overlooks the cityscape, the Barrel Shed out the back has a dedicated dance floor to twirl the night away with your nearest and dearest, and downstairs the cellar is perfect for an intimate affair.

A short drive from Ballarat in the beautiful Pyrenees wine region, this one’s for those wanting to exude elegance on their big day. Well, moreso scream it. Steeped in history since its 1838 build, the charming bluestone homestead is the epitome of country chic. From the moment you drive up the grand driveway you’ll be enthralled by its manicured gardens and breathtaking vistas. A bonus is there are lots of accommodation options so your guests can enjoy the relaxing rural experience overnight.

Start creating your future among the striking creations of Australia’s past in the country’s oldest regional art gallery. From formal seated ceremonies to cocktail receptions, you can opt for an opulent, traditional setting or a more contemporary affair. Make sure you add the grand staircase and exhibition galleries to your photo locations.

Used for trading during the Gold Rush, this historic building has undergone extensive renovations but still maintains many of the charming features of its original era. Located in stunning Lydiard Street in the city centre, the exchange is an empty shell awaiting a couple’s stylish touches. It’s best suited to a large guest list.

Imagine standing on a jetty with a glistening lake on one side and flourishing greenery on the other. This Beaufort venue has you covered. Ideal for nature-lovers, you will have exclusive access to the picturesque country property with bush and lakeside offerings, and majestic mountain views. Rural romance is covered, too, with a glamping suite included for the bride and groom.

If you fancy a romantic winery setting, take a drive out to Coghills Creek (about 25km from Ballarat) and check out this peak offering. Choose between an indoor reception where the abundance of windows will leave the scene sun-drenched, or dance the night away under the stars outdoors. Either way, you and your guests will have magnificent views of the vineyards as the sun says goodnight.

Whether you take your lover’s hand under the 160-year-old fir trees, or set up a marquee among the farm’s orchard of fruit trees, this is the perfect setting for those yearning for private countryside charm. Afterwards, dance your night away inside The Stables, a delightful barn that’s begging for your special touches.
