We sat down with Lauren of Instathat Melbourne to get the low-down on her incredible business, that’s fast becoming everyone’s favourite wedding attendee.
How or why did Instathat come about?
My business partner and I have been in the photobooth industry for 9 years, and we saw a huge interest with Instagram. I was doing a bridal show and had all my Instagram photos printed out and brides went crazy thinking I could print them. I left the bridal fair feeling deflated but then had a light bulb moment.. what if you could print your Instagram photos! After lots of planning Instathat was born.
Describe to us exactly how Instathat works.
For your wedding we assign a custom hashtag for your guests to use when posting to Instagram. All of the images posted using that hashtag are then printed on the spot from our Instagram printers, surrounded by your custom artwork (e.g. to match your invites, or with a special message from you to your guests). If you have guests that cannot attend, you can still encourage them to use the hashtag during your hire time and any image they Instagram will print out at your wedding – no matter where they are in the world.
We offer all day hashtag packages, that include all photos posted to your # during the day, and we have them on display as your guests enter your reception. It’s a wonderful surprise and so much fun to watch!
Instagram printers are certainly the latest trend to hit the wedding industry and have been hugely popular, why do you think that is?
People have full control of what goes to the printer unlike a photobooth where if you don’t like the image it’s too bad. The guests can get the perfect selfie, filter it the way they want to and then send it to the printer. You also see so many photos of the actual event itself, not just posed inside a photobooth.
What are the major benefits of inviting Instathat to share in your wedding day?
You get to view your big day from your guest’s perspective. You get to share in the little moments you missed or a sneaky selfie from your bridesmaids when you weren’t watching. They can all be on display at your reception for you and your guests to enjoy. One of the other major benefits is if your guests can’t make it they can still join in the fun and send photo’s through on your special day. And of course you have a wedding album on Instagram for eternity!
What is included in the Instathat packages?
All our packages include delivery, setup (outside of hire time), unlimited prints, digital files and an attendant to help guests who may not have Instagram as well as be a roving photographer when possible.
We also custom design every print template so your wedding is unique and matching the feel of your big day.
Can couples expect on-the-day assistance, or are they left to their own devices when it comes to Instathat?
We definitely don’t leave people to their own devices – unless they want us to of course! The attendant is there to help any guests who may need it and to ensure the printer keeps pumping for the entire event. They’re very snap happy and take as many photos as they can.
Is there a limit on the number of photos you can print at an event?
All of our hire packages include unlimited prints
