Real Wedding – Vicki & Matt, Euroa VIC

Always meant to be, Vicki and Matt celebrated their love with one incredible wedding day. Despite Vicki spraining her ankle with three days to go, she didn’t allow it to dampen her spirits and on the day she danced the night away!

Set in the country town of Euroa where Vicki grew up, the earthy and elegant styling brought a relaxed and dreamy feel to the celebration. With hints of DIY and bucket loads of love, there was no difficulty for photographer Daniel Milligan to capture so much true love and beauty.

In Vicki’s words…

The meeting.

We were 19 and met through friends. More specifically, I spotted Matt one night, was completely infatuated and later declared my crush to my best friend. Our meeting then became a bit of a set up on a weekend away at the beach with many laughs, a few too many drinks and our first kiss. The rest is obviously history!

The one.

I knew, because I just knew. I always had the feeling with Matt. It’s just that beautiful and all-consuming feeling when you realise you’ve built something so magical together, something that makes your lives so much greater together than they could ever be alone.

The proposal.

At the end of a 5 week trip we returned to our favourite city in the world, New York, where the proposal came as the most beautiful surprise amongst a day spent together in Central Park. After hiding the bulky ring box in his pocket all day, checking it in through 7 internal flights, I was faced with the most beautiful champagne diamond I’d ever seen and could not say “YES PLEASE” quick enough! It was the most perfect moment followed by lots of bubbly with family and friends on a buzzing night out in NYC.

The planning.

Busy! I have a bit of a creative background so opted for a lot of DIY options including making our own cake, favours, signage and invitations. We were also very lucky as we had so much help from friends and family who really went above and beyond for us.

Style inspiration.

Earthy elegance in the Australian bush, being rustic, relaxed, dreamy.  I spent all my summers growing up riding ponies at our family’s property in Euroa, so the stunning Butter Factory just down the road was too perfect to pass up with its Australian bush meets the Tuscan countryside style.

The dress.

Sculptural, contemporary and detailed. A work of art by Sonia Cappellazzo! My issue was, I went to see Sonia first, then nothing else compared. She gave me such a different idea of what I originally wanted, so I completely let go of my ideas and let her work her magic, the design just evolved.

Favourite moment(s).

Hands down, the moment I saw Matt’s smile when walking down the aisle, it was surreal. I couldn’t feel my feet anymore and it felt exactly like I was floating. There was just so much overflowing happiness knowing I was about to marry my favourite person.

There are so many other wonderful moments too, such as picking bugs and sticks out of my veil after photos (a real country wedding), pouring our champagne tower and breaking out into a ridiculously fun dance together to surprise all our guests.

Traditions.

Matt’s family is Jewish so we decided to incorporate the stomping of the glass in our ceremony, Mazel Tov! My favourite though, was the Jewish dancing we did at the start of our reception. Nothing beats getting thrown around in the air on chairs surrounded by everyone you love. It was too much fun!

The meaning of marriage.

In our vows we declared to love each other fiercely and unconditionally, no matter how ordinary or extraordinary our days may be. That is marriage to us. A love that knows no bounds and is just as strong on your most magical days as it is on your darkest of nights.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: How Will I Know by Sam Smith.

Signing Songs: Still Falling For You by Ellie Golding and Heart by Imogen Brough

Reception Entry: This Will Be by Natalie Cole

First Dance: Fun mash up dance mix including Who Loves You by Franki Valli, Disco Inferno by The Traamps, Another Night by Real McCoy, Men In Black by Will Smith and September by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Funny stories/near disasters.

Does the bride spraining her foot three days before count? If so, then yes we have a pretty funny story! I had a team of family, friends and bridesmaids constantly strapping me to the couch, throwing ice packs at me and adding more, more and more cushions under my foot for extreme elevation. Only slightly stressful being on crutches a few days before your wedding. I was so lucky that it improved mostly within those few days and I didn’t feel a thing by the time our wedding rolled around! It must have been fate (and adrenaline) but it certainly made me appreciate every little thing on the day.

Planning surprises.

I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it and how much DIY I could manage to tackle myself.

Words of wisdom.

Relax, enjoy it and never loose sight of what’s important, which is the two of you. It’s such a beautiful and exciting time and goes far too quickly, just savour it!

Last words.

After all my DIY ventures I was inspired to create a cake business/page on Instagram @inkandbutter.
