It started with a Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve party. Somewhere in the aftermath, a friend told Dugald and Kristie Cameron they ought to make a living out of this. Not long after, they bought the established marquee business in Cowes and did exactly that. Both had come up through the events world at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit — Kristie coordinating events, Dugald running ground crew — so they knew what they were walking into.
Marquees are the main event. The range covers clear span structures, the Hampton marquee, pagodas and shade structures, in configurations that scale from a backyard gathering to something considerably larger. They’re engineered for Australian conditions, which on the Island means wind gets a serious look-in, and the team assesses site access, ground conditions, power and guest flow before anything goes up, so the structure works with your event rather than against it.
Around the marquee sits everything else: furniture, flooring, lighting, staging, crockery, cutlery, glassware, catering equipment, linen and styling pieces, all browsable through their online hire catalogue. One supplier, one delivery, one point of contact for most of what a reception needs.
What couples tend to remember, though, is the free design consultation that comes with quoting. Kristie and Dugald sit down with you, work out what you’re picturing and how the space will actually function on the day, and people generally leave with a far clearer head than they arrived with. The team handles delivery, setup and pack-down, and they’ve done this long enough that the logistics rarely become your problem.
It’s a genuine family operation, too — the Cameron kids have been known to help set up furniture in exchange for meat lovers pizza — working out of Cowes and across Victoria.
Over The Top Events is based in Cowes on Phillip Island and provides marquee, furniture and styling hire for weddings across Victoria.
Their range includes clear span marquees, the Hampton marquee, pagodas and shade structures, in flexible configurations from intimate backyard celebrations through to large-scale events, all engineered for Australian weather conditions.
Alongside marquees they hire furniture, flooring, lighting, staging, crockery, cutlery, glassware, catering equipment, linen and styling pieces, with a free design consultation included when they quote.
“We recently had a wedding for our daughter and partner at home on the farm. Dugald and Kristie and their team did an amazing job. Nothing was a problem and their styling and materials used was first class. Highly recommend.”
