A dark, moody wedding at The Trust Melbourne

Ruby and Chris knew from the beginning they wanted a dark, moody wedding in Melbourne, setting the tone for a beautifully atmospheric celebration. With their beloved corgi as a VIP guest, the day felt both deeply personal and effortlessly stylish.

They were married at St Patrick’s Cathedral, where the grandeur of the space brought their vision to life, followed by celebrations at The Trust, perfectly carrying the mood into an elegant reception.

Timeless style defined their look. Ruby wore a gown of clean lines and a refined silhouette, paired with Jimmy Choo heels that later gave way to a playful blue pair for dancing, while Chris opted for a classic black tux and a wedding party in matching black.

The styling was impeccable, with rich burgundy florals enhancing the romantic, moody aesthetic. Maegan Brown Moments beautifully captured the day, weaving through Melbourne’s streets and perfectly reflecting the essence of their celebration.

The meeting.

Chris and I first saw each other at our local shopping centre food court while I was doing work experience at the same place that his best friend worked at. He asked his friend for my name, and he slid into my DM’s.

The one.

There wasn’t one big moment, it was just a quiet feeling that kept growing. Being with each other felt easy – like home.

The proposal.

Chris proposed at home after I went for a nail appointment for my birthday weekend. He had our puppy, Baymax the Corgi, in a little bandana that said, ‘Will you marry my dad?’

Planning process.

A mix of excitement and a little stress. Having Chris overseas for three months of the year, for his athletics, I had to make most of the decisions and attend meetings on my own. It was a challenge at times but made the whole experience even more rewarding at the end.

Style inspiration.

I always knew I wanted a dark, moody wedding, set in our favourite place, Melbourne. We also fell in love with the look of The Trust, which perfectly matched that vision – and from there, everything else just came together.

The ceremony.

We were married at St Patrick’s Cathedral. The atmosphere was so beautiful, and there was something meaningful about sharing that moment in such a timeless, iconic space, surrounded by the people we love.

The outfits.

We both wanted something timeless but still true to our own style. Chris went with a classic black tux and subtle detailing to keep it modern. I chose a structured dress that felt elegant with clean lines and a silhouette.

Favourite moment.

Our favourite moment of the day was the traditional dancing. With Chris being Macedonian and Greek, and me Italian, it brought all our guests together on the dancefloor and created such a fun, energetic atmosphere. It was so special seeing both cultures come together and celebrate with everyone we love.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage, to us, means choosing each other every day, through all of life’s highs and lows. It’s about building a life together, supporting one another, and always having a place that feels like home in each other.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle song: Canon in D by Pachelbel

Reception entry: Adore You by Fred Again

First dance song: La Vie En Rose by Daniela Andrade

Planning surprises.

I knew I’d care about every little detail, but I didn’t expect just how many tiny decisions there would be! From the type of flowers to the napkins and glassware, it was a lot more than I imagined—and so much fun seeing it all come together.

Words of wisdom.

Don’t stress about the small stuff. I know it’s cliché, but in the end, it’s about celebrating your love with the people who matter most. Trust your instincts, enjoy the process, and don’t forget to take a moment to soak it all in, because the day really does fly by!
