Destination Wedding – Anh-Thy & Michael, Uluwatu Bali

Timeless Romance was the theme for Anh-Thy and Michael’s wedding celebration, and their day oozed this and so much more.

Deciding on a destination wedding in Bali, this darling duo ensured their day was completely about them, and there were sweet touches dotted throughout their planning and their day that showed their love for one another.

Anh-Thy was a vision in her Pallas Couture gown as she made her way down the aisle toward her love and her future. For both, the ceremony was the absolute highlight of the day as they declared their love for one another in front of their nearest and dearest.

Fabulous florals, stunning styling, fireworks and sublime photography by Katie Harmsworth, make this a celebration that should not be missed.

In their words…

The meeting.

We met in Hong Kong after being introduced by a mutual friend, we spend the next few days going out with our friends in Hong Kong and getting to know each other.

The ‘one’.

We already knew when we meet that it was meant to be, Anh-Thy is from the Netherlands and I’m from Australia, we connected and had instant chemistry and just knew this was it.

The proposal.

I had planned a surprise trip to Hamilton Island for Anh-Thy’s birthday. We had already been together for four years and I already knew she was the one, I had booked a restaurant for dinner and had told her we needed to leave for dinner at sunset. We walked on the beach where I had a photographer there to capture the moment when I popped the question.

Planning process.

We did a lot of research online and used Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration further to this, we found a wedding planner which was Kira from Hitch’d and worked with her to make our vision come true for our wedding.

Style inspiration.

We wanted something that would look timeless so we came up with a theme which was, Timeless Romance – floral base of nudes and soft blush tones with touches of mixed deep greenery throughout (only slight tropical leaves as small features), grounded by soft whitewash woods.

The outfits.

Anh-Thy had been to many wedding dress shops in Sydney without any luck. Until she went to Pallas

Couture and fell in love with their dresses. But after coming back from an appointment from Pallas Couture she wasn’t sure if she should spend a lot on the wedding dress, so I surprised her and put a deposit for a dress from Pallas after she came back for her second appointment. Joy and Trevor from Pallas helped arrange the surprise for Anh-Thy.

Favourite moment.

Michael: the moment I saw Anh-Thy walking down the aisle and knew I hit the jackpot!

Anh-Thy: standing with Michael while holding his hands at the altar was one of the happiest moments of the day

Meaning of marriage.

Finding someone that will make you laugh and is willing to go on the crazy adventures with you through life and knowing we’re both there for each other.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Make you feel my love – Adele (piano only version)

Reception entry: Crazy in Love – Beyoncé

Fireworks: We Found Love – Rhianna and Calvin Harris

First Dance: “Mia & Sebastian’s theme” – Justin Hurwitz

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Our Bali celebrant became unavailable at the very last minute. So, we had to find a new celebrant two weeks out from our wedding, luckily enough we found Tracey who did such a wonderful job sharing our story of love.

Words of wisdom.

It’s your wedding, so do what makes you happy.

Gabi and Mitch also brought a whole lot of timeless romance to their celebration in the Yarra Valley. Be sure to check it out.

MICHAEL AND ANH-THY’S TRIBE

Ceremony and reception location: The Ungasan clifftop villas, Villa Tamarama – We went to The Ungasan a few years back and just remember it had one of the most beautiful clifftop and sunsets we’ve ever seen and just new this was the place we wanted to get married if we ever decided to walk down the aisle, which we did! Thank you to Natalie and the team at The Ungasan.

Celebrant/Officiant: Tracy K– The Bali Celebrant – Tracy made our ceremony so special, she painted such a beautiful story of what love and marriage means and how two people from the opposite ends of the world could meet and fall in love.

Photography: Katie Harmsworth – No words can describe how amazing Katie is at her art. When we found Katie, we knew she was the one for us. The way she uses the light and could capture the moments and emotion is so special. Katie just made us feel comfortable which I think is very hard to do, when we look back at the photos we see us feeling really relaxed and comfortable and natural. Special mention to Eric, Katie’s second shooter he was just amazing as well.

Videography: The Filmery – We came across Duncan when we saw Nicole Warne’s wedding in Vogue and reached out to see if he would do our wedding as well. When we watched his videos he’s just an amazing story teller, we wanted someone to paint a story and build upon the emotions on the dat. Shout out to Brock + James as well who were also there on the day filming.

Styling: Hitch’d – Kira was amazing to work with, we worked together to come up with a theme for the wedding which we describe as Timeless Romance. We would send over storyboards and ideas and she would help give her own input and send over revised versions of our ideas and this made our wedding unique to us. It was a collaboration between the both of us and we could see every element of our wedding come together, even things which we wanted which we thought wasn’t possible – Kira and the team made it possible for us.

Florist: Sandat Floral

Hair + Make Up:  Anh-Thy did her own hair and makeup.

The Dress(es): Pallas Couture

Silvia from their Sydney store was amazing to work with and helped us through the whole process of picking our rings, we also got to meet Stefano Canturi who customised Michael’s wedding band.

Bridesmaid’s dresses: Bec and Bridge – Michael surprised Anh-Thy with Bridesmaids dresses, trying to organise 5 girls with the same dress and different sizes was very difficult as the bridesmaids we’re all in the Netherlands. The dresses we’re all purchased 2 weeks before the wedding and Michael had to hide it from Anh-Thy and luckily all the girls fit.

Groomsmen’s suits: Suit Supply – We decided to go with a Dutch brand for Michael as Anh-Thy’s dress was from an Australian designer.

Bow ties / ties: Suit Supply

Catering: The Ungasan clifftop villas– Josh who is the executive chef for The Ungasan did amazing food and he was so accommodating with our extra requests.

Bar: The Ungasan …. Patrón Tequila supplied by the Bride and Groom

Favors: Instead of having favors we decided to put more into the wedding and spend more on entertainment, food and the look and feel for our wedding

Cake / Cake topper: Ixora Cakes, best cakes in Bali. The flavours we chose were coconut/coconut ganache for one layer and raspberry/raspberry ganache for the second layer. It was so delicious that Michael emailed them asking if they could make a cake for us to take back to Australia and they made 2 mini wedding cakes for us-

Stationery / Signage: wedding invitations were designed by Etsy designer Kokomo Creative. We printed our own invitations using a local printer in Sydney. Signage and other stationary were done by our wedding planner Hitch’d.
