Destination wedding – Kylie & Matty, Canggu BALI

Kylie and Matty’s beautiful Bali wedding was the perfect celebration of a loved-up couple and their undeniable spark.

Surrounded by their family and friends, having flown in from Australia for the week-long celebrations, this gorgeous gathering was as fun-filled as it was heartfelt.

Embracing her talents as an interior designer, Kylie’s creativity shone through with meticulous planning, impeccable surrounds and stunning styling that fit the tropical paradise.

From a knock-out One Day Bridal gown, and a party that went well into the small hours, we know you’ll love how the talented Beck Rocchi has captured every moment of this dream day.

In Kylie’s words…

The meeting.

We were introduced to each other through a mutual friend after a number of attempts to get us both to meet we finally did.

Our first date was at the Smith in Prahran and Matty leaped up out of his seat to greet me at the front door.

Our conversation took off immediately, well I rambled on solidly for the first 10 mins straight without Matty getting a word in and he just sat there patiently waiting for his chance to speak, this is something that continues to happen today!

That evening our drink turned into dinner and 3-4 hours of great conversation. We covered off all the big topics in life and some of our shining and defining moments in the past and the ones we wanted to create moving forward. He also picked that I was the ‘type of person who owns a Dyson Vacuum’.

That night I felt like I was talking to my best friend, I know it was early in the piece but I genuinely felt like this person had a real buzz for life and it was contagious. He was so easy to chat to and I had so much fun, I couldn’t wait to do it again.

The ‘one’.

I knew from the moment I met him I was onto a good thing… we had ‘spark’!

The proposal.

We went to Bali last year in the lead up to our anniversary. Matty was a ball of nerves, however I can only really pin point this now on reflection.

He spent the first half of the trip trying to get me to do adventurous things, climb waterfalls and take long beach walks so he could propose and I don’t think I made this very easy for him.

He surprised me after breakfast at our Villa on the morning of our second anniversary together. I was eating my breakfast slowly, (literally one bake bean at a time), I was on Bali time! Matty pulled me up on this and encouraged me to speed things up while I proceeded to tell him that the French eat slowly…

As soon as I had taken my last bite Matty was up out of his chair and standing in front of me, hand fumbling in his pocket. With a personal line I am sure he had rehearsed… I was shaking, laughing and teary all at the same time and above all I was so happy.

The process.

It was quick! We were engaged in August 2017 and married six months later. The pace in which we had to organise things certainly helped to make some of those big decisions.

Style inspiration.

We wanted the day to be a relaxed celebration with our closest family and friends. We chose Bali because we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to be on holidays surrounded by the people we love.

The style of the wedding was contemporary and relaxed.

The gown.

My dress was from The One Day Bridal, Chosen Range.

It was a slinky silk gown that was perfect for the hot and humid climate in Bali. I wanted a contemporary, timeless silhouette and something that I felt very comfortable.

I just loved the low back detail and split of the dress.

My shoes were from Scanlan and Theodore and I later changed into a low Zimmerman kitten heel to dance the night away.

Favourite moments.

Walking down the aisle beaming at Matty and seeing his grin equally as big as mine.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage is the celebration of ‘us’ with our nearest and dearest. I feel lucky that I met Matty and so it deserves to be celebrated. It is an honor to be called Matty’s wife and I consider myself a lucky lady.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Stand By Me by Ben E king

Processional: Ho Hey by The Lumineers

Reception entry: You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate

First dance: Perfect by Ed Sheeran and Valerie by Amy Winehouse

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Matty purchased his wedding band just two days before flying out to Bali, a detail he had forgotten to mention up until this point!

Planning surprises.

How hard it is to keep the guest list under 100 people.

Words of wisdom.

The day is about you both as a couple, stay true to that.

Gather a fabulous team of people to help you make the day happen and enjoy the ride.
