Destination Wedding – Zoe & Harry, New York USA

New York, New York! Is there anything more romantic than a stunning celebration in the city where dreams are made of?

When Zoe and Harry brainstormed how they wanted their dream day to pan out, they knew they wanted to keep it elegant, yet simple and create an amazing experience for themselves and their much loved guests – so New York was a natural fit.

Trailing past many New York icons, Zoe made her way to her groom Harry in a glamorous gown by Tribe favourite, Karen Willis Holmes. Exchanging vows, surrounded by greenery and a whole lot of love, they kept their reception location secret, so they could surprise their guests.

Transporting everyone to the party, their loved ones were greeted with espresso martinis and incredible views of Manhattan. It was an experience they’ll never forget.

There they celebrated the night away, with many a heart melting moment captured by Youn Jung Kim.

In Zoe’s words…

The meeting.

We met  in 2006 when Harry had just moved to Melbourne from Seoul (South Korea). We instantly became friends and knew there was something deeply special about one another, but we lost contact for a few years after studying and reconnected in 2014. We met up again and instantly connected, reminiscing about our memories together and what we had missed out while we had been apart. It was like no time had passed, and we picked up right where we left off. The spark we felt so many years ago when we first met, was alive and stronger than ever and it was so clear that we had fallen in love.

The proposal.

Harry organised a family trip to Seoul with myself, my parents and sister, for Christmas and New Year. He wanted to show my family his background, where he had grown up in Seoul. I had no idea he had planned to propose but my parents knew.

Harry proposed to me in Seoul on New Years Eve with a ring he had designed himself, just after midnight in front of my parents and sister, in an amazing sky bar overlooking the city, with fireworks going off in background. It was the best surprise ever.

The process.

We really enjoyed planning our wedding, we didn’t want a stressful experience and we wanted to enjoy the whole wedding process. We knew exactly what we wanted and obviously organising everything from Australia, we had to be calm and trust our intuition on every decision we made.

Style inspiration.

We are both creative and determined people and we knew we wanted it to be elegant yet simple, but most of all an amazing experience for us and for everyone else. We kept that in mind the whole time

We chose New York City to get married because our love of traveling and because we wanted a city wedding. We also wanted something we could share with everyone,  something amazing that was not only just for us, but also for our families and friends. We wanted everyone to make memories that they would hold on to and never forget!

And New York was it! ‘Where dreams are made of’.

I walked down 6th Avenue with my family from our hotel a block away from Central Park to the ceremony in Cop Cot Central Park, a cosy wooden hut covered with green plants where we shared our vows in front of 40 of our close friends and family.

We had a string quartet playing and enjoyed champagne in the park afterwards.

We had planned from the beginning that none of the guests knew where the reception was being held, as we wanted it to be a surprise, so we arranged a couple of limos to transport everyone from Central Park to Public Hotel in Soho, where they were greeted by our incredible host, Anna. With of course keeping the Melbourne vibe, there were espresso martinis at the terrace on arrival.

We found Public Hotels on Instagram and we were drawn to the amazing views of Manhattan and the overall vibe.

We had our own private terrace on the 17th floor, where we had cocktails and canapés overlooking the amazing city, with the sun setting over the Manhattan skyline,  followed by a sit down dinner. There were floor-to-ceiling windows the whole way around the room so everyone could enjoy the food, drinks, music and the view

We then moved up to the rooftop for the after party, it was on a Friday night so it was busy with lots of cool New Yorkers!

We had our own reserved section to keep drinking/eating and enjoying the night skyline, and the hotel also has a nightclub in it, which the guests then moved to to dance the night away.

Everyone then returned to Public Hotels the next morning for a brunch in the hotel’s gorgeous courtyard.

The dress.

I absolutely loved my KWH dress, when I tried my dress on for the first time, I fell in love with it.  It was a classic design that had such a modern twist to it and I hadn’t seen anything like it, . It was that perfect wedding dress I had been looking for and I knew it was perfect wedding dress for NYC.

Favourite moments.

Walking up the aisle to Harry in front of my family and friends is a moment I will never forget.

Meaning of marriage.

Creating a life together and loving each other unconditionally every day.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Can’t Help Falling In Love

First dance: At Last

Words of wisdom.

Don’t over think it too much, trust yourself and most of all, enjoy it! It’s going to be best day of your life no matter what!!
