How did Tipi Tribe come about, and what do you offer brides and grooms-to-be?

Tipi Tribe came about when we started exploring options for our own wedding and we fell head over heels for these beautiful marquees- so decided to start a business! Please note, we are still not not married!!!

Why should couples consider a tipi wedding?

Why not really? Our tipis are unique and give a special touch to your celebration. They look incredible and certainly leave guests talking. By night, as they are lit up, the tipis are truly magical. An added bonus also is that with a tipi you can have an outdoor wedding all year round.

“Wedstivals” or tipi villages are such a gorgeous wedding day option, where do you begin when exploring the option?

Social media makes the researching so easy these days. Instagram and Pinterest are incredible and sites like Ivory Tribe have so much to offer. Also, don’t be afraid to get on the phone to your suppliers, including us. We are there to help, answer any questions you might have and bring your wedding day dreams to life.

What considerations need to be made when planning – location, power, additional hire items, caterers etc?

There are a number of things to consider when looking at a tipi wedding.

When it comes to the actual tipi, a couple need to consider the following:

  • is the ground level?
  • is the site free from underground services such as electrical cables and water pipes?
  • does the site have good access for 4WD vehicles and large trailers for set up and pack down?
  • in case of severe weather (extreme winds) is there a nearby site as a plan B?

We like to make the process as easy and simple as possible and if a client has a question about the site they have chosen we are happy to do a site inspection.

Additional hire items would be required especially when it comes to lighting and power. You will need to think of the needs of your musicians, caterers, stylists etc. But we can chat about this over the phone or a cuppa.

Do a couple need to be concerned about set up and pack down, or is this included?

This is all included. We just like to have access to the location a few days prior to allow the styling to happen before the big day so there’s no last minute rush. We make it as simple as possible, so you can enjoy the day!

How many people can your tipis accommodate – and what size wedding is most suited?

It seems that wedding guest numbers of around 150 is our most common booking. However, the beauty of a tipi is that we can link tipis together, so we can accommodate small (30-50) or large weddings, whether it be cocktail or sit down.

What are the inclusions, and additional extras for couples planning to utilise a tipi?

With every event being so different we work with the clients to tailor packages to each wedding.

We do have a basic option of the tipi/s with the flooring and basic stage lighting and then we work together with our clients to incorporate any additional extras they might require.

We also offer lighting fairy and festoons, timber tables and bench seats, dance floor and fire place.

Is seasonality and weather an important consideration?

Not at all – our tipis withstand even the nastiest weather and are the perfect winter venue and look amazing with the fire place inside! After all the tipi was originally created for shelter.

For those in need, do you have some great Victorian private properties you can share with us?
