Zen Hens and the Ultimate Glamping Giveaway

So you’ve been immersed in wedding planning for the past few months. You’re almost done, and it’s almost time to make your way down the aisle into your lover’s arms. But first, how about a getaway with the girls to celebrate all your hard – and sometimes very stressful – work?

Healthy Hens, Hire a Kombi and Twilight Glamping treated us to a Hen’s Day experience like no other, and we’ve got to say, we didn’t miss the phallic straws and pink Hummers one bit.

Here’s how our perfectly-planned getaway unfolded…

What better way to start a girls getaway than in a sweet ride from Hire a Kombi. Our kombi (also known as Harriet) was the perfect way to see the Great Ocean Road as we road tripped to our destination. Hire a Kombi owners and husband and wife, Alyce and George, love seeing the happiness that a kombi brings to people. We were smitten from the moment we took off as we laughed and listened to tunes along the way.

We arrived at Cumberland River Holiday Park, and instantly felt a wave of relaxation. Seriously, just try to give us a better backdrop for this adventure. The cliff faces, lush lawns and sounds of the sea. Incredible.

There were plenty of oohs and ahhs as we checked into our Twilight Glamping bell tents. Run by local adventure enthusiasts Lee and Beth, the luxury venture was created to inspire people to get together, enjoy the outdoors and get back to nature. And they executed their idea perfectly. Oozing luxury, stepping inside one of these beauties is like stepping into an idyllic paradise. You know you’re in for a treat when you spot the magazines, picnic hamper and cheeky bottle of red.

After shotgunning our beds (our tent fit four comfortably) we made our way down to our first activity – getting pretty with Alisha from Poesy Flowers. We sat down and watched on in awe as she effortlessly showed us how to make our flower crowns. This girl knew her stuff. It was so lovely to craft a beautiful blossoming headpiece while chatting amongst ourselves. There was lots of wedding talk, of course, but it was also an ideal chance to catch up on everything else while whiling away the afternoon with a relaxing task.

As the name implies, the getaways are health-based, but that doesn’t mean they have to be alcohol-free. After all, it is a celebration. Healthy Hens don’t supply any liquor, but you’re more than welcome to take your own. We had a couple of glasses of sparkling along the way.

Next stop was quite possibly the most divine spread we’ve laid eyes on. We’re still thinking about this picnic situation, actually. Styled to beautiful boho perfection, there was coconut water (out of coconuts – nothing but the best for the beautiful hen), juices from Green Street Juice Co., fresh fruits, nuts, dips and raw treats. If you ever have the option, always order the raw bounty bliss balls. Trust us. There was every colour of the rainbow and it was equally as delicious as it was pretty.

We spent our night giggling around the campfire. There was a little more wine and there were some perfectly-toasted marshmallows, but most importantly there was the best company and the chance to connect with each other before the impending nuptials.

We retired back to our tents and felt like we were floating away on clouds as we drifted off to sleep. The beds are that good, and the linen is top notch, too. Extra points to the ocean for its soothing lullaby.

The next morning, we woke to our yoga teacher, Tiffany of Healthy Hens knocking on our tent door. She whisked us off to the beach for one of the most blissful sun salutations any of us have experienced. Because sometimes, all you need, is your girls and your own private yoga class beside the sea.
