Real Elopement – Leish & Dan, Phillip Island VIC

Leish and Dan kept their elopment simple, fuss-free and effortlessly stylish – and boy are the results stunning!

This perfect pair were the epitome of cool, calm and collected when it came to planning.

Travelling from Bali to be hitched at Phillip Island, bride Leish, was lucky to find herself a gorgeous little number from Zara to wear only two weeks out from their wedding date.

They didn’t sweat the small stuff and instead focused on what was important, being married, and Shannon Jeans lead them through their sensational ceremony with much laughter and love.

Eliza Tate was behind the lens capturing all the little moments of magic and we think you’ll fell very inspired by this relaxed and romantic day.

The meeting.

We actually formerly met at my ex-boyfriend’s house maybe 21 years ago. My friend was there with me and I literally said he is super cute you should go for him. Fast forward a couple of years when I was single and mingling, we found each other again, one summer’s night, at the Portsea Pub of places!

The one.

Not long after that. We had a lot of fun together that is for sure.

The proposal.

We were on our first little vacay away with our baby girl Arkie. Dan popped the question cool and casually on our morning walk just prior to “Bloody Mary o-clock”.

Style inspiration.

We didn’t really have a style as such, we just wanted it to be like a summer’s day out and a winery fancied up just a tad. Living in Bali one of the things we miss is wineries so that made a lot of sense for us.

The outfit.

Haha well I had a few dresses made in Bali although I tried one on and I couldn’t get it off quick enough. It was not that they were a disaster, not at all, they were all very beautiful however the whole white wedding dress was just not me. It just didn’t seem right or comfortable wearing a long white dress. When I arrived back into Australia, I had 2 weeks to find something I would feel like ‘me’ in. I just happened to be in Zara and a little cream lace dress for $49 jumped out and said ‘wear me’. I didn’t wear any jewellery as I am not an accessory gal and the shoes were enough bling-bling to bring the outfit together perfectly.

Favourite moment.

Arriving at the winery and mingling drink in hand prior to our nuptials. No nerves at all and it all felt so casual.

Meaning of marriage.

Officially a team! Forever and ever supporting, encouraging and loving unconditionally.

Wedding soundtrack.

My Baby Just Cares For Me – Nina Simone. We didn’t walk down an aisle so this oldie but goodie was just playing straight after the nuptials when we had our champagne tower.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

With 9 days to go and still not finding a suitable dress that felt like “me” was a little bit of a worry! I literally had my shoes but no idea what I was going to wear.

My best friend threw together a bunch of flowers she found at the supermarket an hour before the wedding.

Planning surprises.

Honestly, I think being in Bali was the best thing for me as I did not get caught up in the wedding plans.

Words of wisdom.

Make sure that you are doing it for you. I feel these days the wedding has become all about what others think.

Final words.

I think living in Bali, South Sumatra and travelling to remote areas we just couldn’t fathom spending a huge amount of money on our wedding when we could spend it supporting local communities. We had nothing to prove and have been together for 18 years. The total of the entire wedding was under $5000 so we were pretty chuffed, it was surprising!
