Real Wedding – Alex & Jeremy, Albert Park VIC

Can the day of your dreams be pulled off with just four months to plan? In the case of Alex and Jeremy – absolutely!

Throwing tradition out the door, bride Alex says she had three clear priorities when it came to their wedding day: an awesome party, with an awesome dress, and to marry the love of her life Jeremy. Everything else simply flowed from there.

With Blossom Daisy Creative working her camera magic, it’s no surprise that this Albert Park day looked to be an incredible one – enjoy!

In Alex’s words…

The meeting.

The banter begun via Happn (the app)… from there, the first date was at The Stokehouse on a hot summer evening in January 2017.

The ‘one’.

For me, it was a few weeks in, over Japanese take away at my kitchen table! By far, the easiest relationship I’d ever been in.

The proposal.

In July 2018, Jeremy took me glamping at Balgownie Estate in Bendigo for my birthday (apparently, the closest he’ll ever get to camping!). The proposal was perfect, beautiful, and totally awkward. At a very unexpected moment, Jeremy whipped out a stunning ring. I dropped the hairdryer I was holding, and just hugged him. At some stage in the next couple of minutes I think I said yes! I was so impressed he’d gotten a ring, and that it was so, so very ‘me’ – and VERY brave given I’m a jewellery designer! He then told me it belonged to his Grandma (whom we’re very close with), and it just made the whole moment even more special.

The process.

Our wedding date was determined by availability of the venue – which meant we had just over four months to pull it together! We wanted everything to be easy – hence trusted recommendations from experts and friends, alongside our gut. We didn’t want a huge amount of formality, so broke a few of the traditional wedding rules such as no first dance, no cars, no cutting of the cake! I wanted three things from our wedding; an awesome party, with an awesome dress, and to marry Jeremy. Prioritisng what we spent time on laddered down from there.

Style inspiration.

We wanted a huge garden party, with loads of lights. That was the brief to Tori Allen, and we worked from there!

The outfits.

I went to one shop, and the decision was made in an hour! I knew I didn’t want anything traditional, and it was actually more ‘bridal’ than I’d imagined. But the moment I put it on, I was sold. I felt amazing, it fitted me perfectly and mum was equally in love with it! Given this dress was long sleeved, and very heavy, I chose a second dress to ensure I could hit the dancefloor.

The jewellery for ourselves and the bridal party was hugely meaningful; The design for my earrings was inspired by two people who will dance anywhere, at any time – pretty much us! I made Jeremy’s cufflinks as a surprise; a hedgehog and a bird (our alter egos!) which were also on our invitations. And whilst we didn’t have matching bridesmaids dresses, I made them all earrings which I named ‘Side by Side’, which represents the years of lovely, loyalty and adventures we’ve all had together.

Favourite moments.

There isn’t one. From spending the day with my best friends, to walking down the aisle with mum, to the personal (and hilarious!) ceremony, to the dancefloor at midnight – every moment of the day

Meaning of marriage.

A life of adventure with your best friend.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Made to Love by John Legend

Signing: Everlasting Light by The Black Keys

Recessional: Beautiful Girl by INXS

Funny stories (or near disasters).

I took a minor trip on our way back down the aisle which thankfully didn’t end with me flat on my face!

Planning surprises.

The amount of love and excitement shared by our friends and family – this was so overwhelming from the moment we got engaged, until the wedding.

Words of wisdom.

It can be incredibly overwhelming at times! Just allow as much time as you can, and remember what really matters to you both at the end of the day.

ALEX & JEREMY’S TRIBE

Ceremony and reception: Greenfields, Albert Park

Celebrant/Officiant: Shura Taft – He did an amazing job; the ceremony was personal, hilarious, and captured ‘us’ perferctly. Not to mention he’s exceptionally professional.

Photography: Blossom Daisy Creative

Videography: Moon & Back

Styling: Tori Allen Events – Tori and her team did an exceptional job on everything they touched – the flowers, styling, event management, and even doubling the size of the deck at the venue! Tori’s creativity took our simple brief to next-level amazing. Given large scale event planning isn’t something Jeremy and I have had much experience with, we couldn’t have had the wedding we did without TAE – they know what they’re doing, love it, and are so so talented.

Florist: Tori Allen Events

Hair: Carmen Vitale – Carmen and I clicked the moment we met – she’s got amazing ideas, is no fuss, and just gets it! Total legend!

Make-up: Claire Vyverberg – This girl is one talented lady. She’s cool as a cucumber, knows how to create natural beauty, and if I had my way, I’d adopt her and keep her in my spare room with Carmen so I had them both on tap daily!

The Dress(es): Rachel Gilbert and Camilla and Marc

Rings and accessories: Family heirlooms and jewellery designed by Alex Tempany Jewelry, made by Emil Braun

Cake / Cake topper: Zahara at Beurre. Having fallen for Zahara’s handpainted beauties, I’d imagined something huge and colourful – until Jeremy and I realised we didn’t want a traditional cutting of the cake! Zahara is trained in France and also makes incredible desserts, so suggested we do something a little different, and have roaming desserts. She designed three different, beautiful desserts which captured all our favourite sweets (most importantly peanut butter, and anything pink!), and were served cocktail style.

Stationery: Il Papiro

Signage: Tori Allen Events

Entertainment: Rutherford Entertainment

Honeymoon: Sri Lanka
