Real Wedding – Ash & Blake, Yarra Valley VIC

We adore the rustic romance of Ash and Blake’s stunning Yarra Valley day.

Throwing a glorious garden party, they created a vibe of relaxed and romantic elegance that set the scene for their perfect celebration. With guests relaxing on the lawn, accompanied by amazing food, drinks and acoustic music, this sweet celebration is a stunner.

Captured by Anna Taylor, we just know you’ll love this darling day as much as we do.

The meeting.

We met in 2006 when we were both 16. We both lived in the same street and had mutual friends in the area.

The ‘one’.

I think we both knew early on that we were meant to be. It’s hard not to when you get along with someone so well they are almost a clone of you.

The proposal.

Blake popped the question on 24th June 2016, a month after our 10-year anniversary. We went to Marysville for the night and he popped the question in our hotel room.

The planning.

Because we had been together for so long we knew what we wanted and knew we didn’t want to wait. The hardest part was finding a venue that suited our needs and style. Once the decision was made and a date was chosen, the rest just fell into place. We booked all of our vendors and finalised most things before Christmas so we could sail smoothly into 2017 with little on the to-do list. Both Blake and I are very laid back so the decisions were easy. Quite often I would go to him with two options, he would choose one and we would go with that.

Style inspiration.

Our inspiration was almost garden party. We prayed for a day of good weather (which we got!!) as we wanted all of our guests to be able to relax on the lawn with some amazing food and drinks accompanied by some acoustic music.

The dress.

My dress was the perfect fit and was extremely flattering. I had done some research on the particular brand and visited a bridal boutique in Collins Street that stocked it. By coincidence, I ended up purchasing the first dress I tried on.

Favourite moments.

My favourite moment of the day was walking down the aisle. We decided to change things up a little and instead of walking down the aisle in between our guests I chose to walk out the doors of the homestead and walk in front of everyone to where Blake was standing at the altar. This was extra special because I was able to see the faces of all our family and friends.

Meaning of marriage.

Although marriage has not changed us we both feel like we have completed another chapter in our lives and feel somewhat complete.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle – My Girl by Tiago Iorc (remake of The Temptations)

Reception entry – Happy by Pharrell Williams (performed by our band)

First Dance – At Last by Etta James (performed by our band)

Funny stories (or near disasters).

The day was probably as smooth sailing as it can get. I think this contributed to how amazing the day was.

Planning surprises?

The amount of allergies and food intolerances that people have!!!!

Words of wisdom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff and if you get to the day and realise you had forgotten to do something it clearly wasn’t that important.

Last words…

Blake and I decided to have our photos taken before the ceremony. We had seen each other the morning of and separated when it was time to get ready. The “first look” photos were taken at the venue with our immediate family watching from a far. We chose not to have a bridal party as we wanted the day to be about the two of us and we are so glad we stuck with our decision. We instead included our siblings in the service and had them witness our marriage, hold the rings and do a reading. This made it more special.
