Real Wedding – Ben & Hannah, Fitzroy VIC
Hannah and Ben dared to be different when it came to their urban wedding set in Fitzroy.
They knew from the moment they began planning that they wanted to spend much of the day together. They began with a ‘first look’ surrounded by their family and bridal party, before they popped some bubbles and made their way around this sensational suburb for photos in a Kombi. Stopping for a bridal party lunch, they all wore disposable ponchos to avoid any food mishaps!
Hannah admits she was nervous about finding the right outfit for her wedding as she didn’t like the idea of a traditional wedding dress. However, she found the ‘one’ at fashion faves, One Day Bridal, and we think you’ll agree that Hannah absolutely stunned.
Following their ceremony it was dinner, dancing and espresso martinis so perfectly captured by It’s Beautiful Here.
In Hannah’s words…
The meeting.
Ben and I met 9 years ago through mutual friends. We were in one of the dirtiest clubs Melbourne has to offer and it was far from love at first sight.
The ‘one’.
When I couldn’t imagine myself with anybody else in the entire world.
The proposal.
Ben popped the question by the seaside at the beach of my childhood, Inverloch. My family have had a holiday house down there for almost 28 years and it’s my second home. It was perfect. I was so happy I nearly knocked the ring into nearby shrubs (which would have been a serious disaster).
The outfit.
I felt very uneasy about selecting a wedding dress. I knew that I would want something different and was in love with dresses from the likes of Odylyne the Ceremony and One Day Bridal. Eventually I settled on the Nala gown from One Day Bridal. I was nervous to wear it but couldn’t bear the thought of a traditional wedding dress.
Favourite moment.
Seeing Ben for the first time on our wedding day. That was really special.
Meaning of marriage.
Marriage to me is choosing to love somebody for the rest of your life. A relationship is so much more than just being in love. You need to choose them every day.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle song: Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
First dance: Under the Boardwalk – The Drifters
Signing of the register: Sign, Sealed, Delivered – Stevie Wonder
Funny stories (or near disasters).
Our DJ cancelled on us the night before our wedding but luckily her HUSBAND was available and he turned out to be awesome.
Planning surprises.
How friendly all of our suppliers were. They were just the best.
Words of wisdom.
Don’t feel pressured to follow traditions that don’t reflect who you and your partner are. We have been told a hundred times that our wedding was so different, but that it was the best they have ever been to. Your day should be everything you are as a couple.
Basil and Courtney’s day is a city stunner, be sure to check it our for all your #wedspo needs.
