Real Wedding – Cait & Matty, Beechworth VIC

At first not knowing where to begin, Cait and Matty soon hit their wedding planning groove when they enlisted the help of White Top Venues and turned their wedding day into a beauty, with country Beechworth as the backdrop.

Their style was simple and minimalist with black, white, neutrals and glamorous greenery to enhance the already stunning venue. They wanted to let their food, drink and music do the talking and their guests sure appreciated the incredible celebration they put on. They feasted on fabulous fare before hitting the outdoor dance floor all night long.

Dressed in a stunning gown, Cait took everyone’s breath away when she made her way down the aisle to her long time love Matty and Bec Bower was there to capture it all.

In Cait’s words…

The meeting.

Matty and I first met at University in Ballarat, I was beginning my first year of Uni and moved into the same unit on residence as Matty who was in his 3rd year. A few weeks went by without us paying much attention to one another. It wasn’t until our first big Res function when we were introduced officially. From there Matty sought my number from a friend and so the story begins.

The ‘one’.

I think we always knew we had something special from the beginning. We both went off and did our own travel after uni, but found our way back together. I think after that we knew it was meant to be.

The proposal.

Matty took me out for a lovely dinner for my birthday. When we got home, I put my comfiest (ugliest) tracksuit on and hit the couch. Matty said he had a birthday present for me, giving me a massive box that he had wrapped. Inside that, was another and another, until I eventually arrived at a small ring box and a sign that said ‘will you marry me’. Even after being together for a long time, it took me completely by surprise.

The process.

We were pretty slow to begin with. I had no real idea of where we should get married, so it took a little bit of time before we found the right place. We thought we might have been leaving the booking a little late, but we were really lucky, it all seemed to fall into place. Closer to the day, Sophie Walsh from White Top took care of all the finer details allowing us to be relaxed and enjoy the lead up to our special day.

Style inspiration.

Our style was simple and minimalist. We stuck to black, white and neutrals, using the natural greenery at the venue. We picked a few big ticket items to focus on such as food, drink and music and then let the wedding venue do the rest with its stunning setting. It didn’t really need much styling at all. We got married at the winery and for the ceremony we walked down a beautiful white pebble path that was lined by gorgeous weeping trees with the vineyard as the backdrop. I don’t think it was designed to be an aisle, but it worked perfectly.

After the ceremony our friends and family moved over to the lawn to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere with canapés and acoustic tunes. Soph styled this area with a nice big bar, some wine barrels and umbrellas and our florist Alice, added some finishing touches with small white florals.

In the evening we let the marquee do the talking. It was a clear marquee, decorated by fairy lights and beautiful simple floral arrangements on long tables. We wanted our guests to be able to share a banquet style meal, as we loved the atmosphere and conversation this had created at weddings we had attended previously. We tossed up between an inside dance floor and an outside one. In the end we went with outside and it didn’t disappoint. Our day was everything and more. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

The dress.

I had an idea in my head, but couldn’t seem to find what I was looking for in the bridal stores. I tried on a lot of beautiful dresses, but nothing that I really fell in love with. I was down to the nine month mark and still hadn’t found what I was looking for. One of my bridesmaids suggested getting one made and Mum suggested having a look at some of the logies dresses to get some ideas. I found a dress that I loved and discovered the designer was in Melbourne. I didn’t think I would have much luck, but I gave them a call. As soon as Madison from Cappellazzo answered the phone, she was friendly, kind and accommodating, making me feel at ease straight away.

My first appointment with Sonia Cappellazzo was incredible. I tried on one of her samples I had seen and it was amazing to then see her create unique and beautiful touches tailored just to me. The dress was smooth and simple, but was a little bit sexy with a lower back and leg split. It was made of a neoprene fabric which was super comfy and light! Sonia made me feel so welcome each visit and the whole process was so special and fun. It was an experience I will cherish forever.

Favourite moments.

The whole day was amazing from start to finish, with many favourite moments, but walking down the aisle and seeing Matty waiting at the bottom was pretty spectacular. It is honestly a unique moment in time where everyone is watching you and you are both this special moment together.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage to us mean  from being there for each other through the hard times and fun times, supporting each other and sharing life’s moments together. Marriage to us means growing old together and laughing through life whilst enjoying each other’s company.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles (acoustic version by Dean Collishaw).

Signing: Blood by Middle East/Gang of Youths , Eyes by Rouge Wave

Aisle song:  Feel Again by One Republic

Reception Entry: Marry You by Bruno Mars

First Dance: Crazy Love by Van Morrison

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Our near disaster was the bus that didn’t quite make the turn at the front gate into the venue, getting dangerously close to tipping one side of the bus into the culvert. All the guests had to climb out and walk up the road to the winery.

A funny story was Matty skipping all the bus drama and stealing the show by arriving in a helicopter with two of his groomsmen. The four groomsmen had a handball competition earlier to decide who would get to arrive in style.

Words of wisdom.

Don’t stress the little things, it all works out on the day. Make sure you take a moment on the night, just the two of you to move away from the celebrations and take it all in.

Last words…

We want to thank all our family, friends and vendors who made our day amazing, fun, relaxed and better than we could ever have imagined.

Sib and Jonny sure know how to throw a wedding, head to their Yarra Valley day here.
