Real Wedding – Cassandra & Jacob, Curlewis VIC
How do you know when you’ve found the one? Love at first sight? First kiss? Or when they order cheesy truffle fries? This gorgeous groom knew how to pick a winner! And boy, did it result in one epic wedding?!
Cassandra and Jacob sealed the deal in style at beautiful Baia Wines on the Bellarine Peninsula. Their day was full of sentimental’s traditions and heartfelt emotion. When you pair that with some stunning styling and florals and you’ve got yourself one seriously chic celebration.
Nicole from Light and Type was called upon to photograph this darling duo’s dream day, and she certainly delivered with some incredible imagery!
In Cassandra’s words…
The meeting.
We actually met through Tinder and matched with each other with the swipe of a thumb in April 2015.
The one.
I knew Jacob was the one when he first kissed me (yeah, yeah, I know it’s sappy) and he says he knew I was the one when I ordered the cheesy truffle fries on our first date.
The proposal.
Jacob proposed in our car of all places. He picked me up from work and we went to watch the sunset over Melbourne. We got back in the car to head home and the next thing I know Jacob is rummaging around in the back seat of our little car (we had recently been discussing selling it).
He then started saying that he wasn’t sure he really wanted to sell it and started reminiscing about all of the wonderful things that had happened to us in that car; our first Kiss, our first ‘I love you’, our first adventure, moving in together, moving to Melbourne. He then said “It’s only fitting that I ask you to spend the rest our lives together in this car… will you marry me?”
The planning.
Planning for us was surprisingly easy as we are both very organised people. We had a few hiccups, but nothing that we can’t look back at and laugh at now. We felt like a lot of our vendors and suppliers became close friends during the process, so we were very lucky.
Style inspiration.
We wanted a little bit of everything; classic, rustic and by the ocean. We basically wanted something that felt like a family gathering but beautiful. With the help of our vendors, we pulled it off.
The dress.
I wanted a simple gown, something classic and beautiful with a hint of fun. I spent a few weeks searching online through numerous designers and then fell in love with ‘Billie’ from Made with Love. I know it was my dress the moment I saw it and tried it on.
Favourite moments.
We didn’t see or speak to each other for a whole week prior to our wedding (Jewish tradition) so for us, it was the moment I reached the top of the aisle to see Jacob crying. I practically dragged my parents down the aisle running to him.
The meaning of marriage.
Marriage to us is a commitment to be your partner’s person for life. Is about sharing the good and the bad and having a life together that’s full of adventure, big and small. It’s about loving each other no matter what and for us, it’s not being able to wait to get home and share the little things that happened during our day.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: (Bridesmaids and Flower Girls) My Girl by The Temptations
Aisle: (Bride) At Last by Ella Fitzgerald.
Reception Song: The Hora
First Dance: If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys
Funny stories (or near disasters).
We were trying out a potential supplier and were so excited about meeting them… when we arrived it was not what we expected at all. What we thought what a professional establishment turned out to be someone’s kitchen and it was all downhill from there… let’s just say they admitted to buying the tasting samples from the supermarket and just throwing it together for us. Safe to say, we didn’t end up using that potential vendor!
Two days before the wedding, my now-husband realized he shipped the incorrect pair of shoes for one of his groomsmen. After calling almost every shoe store in Melbourne, the kind people at the Comme Des Garcon store in Melbourne where kind enough to put a pair aside for him that were being released the next morning. The day before the wedding, he made the round trip from Barwon Heads to Melbourne to ensure everything was just perfect on the day.
Planning surprises.
Yes – everyone’s opinions! From family and friends to random work colleagues. People want to tell you how to plan your day.
Words of wisdom.
When people tell you how to plan your day, breathe it all in, smile say “Thanks for your advice” and breathe it all out again. Remember that some things may not go exactly as you planned, but you will be the only one that knows. I promise you, your guests won’t care. They are there to support you and celebrate with you. My best friend also gave us some amazing advice before the big day, and that was to at some point during your wedding, take 5 mins to stand back with your partner and take it all in. Look at all of your guests having fun and just take a moment to breathe and appreciate your partner.
