Real Wedding – Chrissie & Tim, Wye River VIC

Beachside bliss brought the perfect beginning to Chrissie and Tim’s married life.

The long-time lovers knew that a relaxed coastal soiree was the day of their dreams, so they enlisted the planning prowess of Tribe talent Chic By Cara to work her magic and make it a reality.

Filled with heartfelt moments and a rocking dance floor, Chrissie and Tim’s Wye River celebration was captured with love by Smitten Wedding Photography.

IN CHRISSIE AND TIM’S WORDS…

The meeting.

We were both 17 and had the same friends, we were very young and probably a little shy but eventually we started dating and the rest is history!

The ‘one’.

Probably the moment we started sharing the same experiences and enjoying a life together.

The proposal.

Over the Melbourne Cup long weekend we spent the day of cruising along the Great Ocean Road with Tim treating me to my first helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles. We then set up camp at Johanna beach camp ground and headed to the beach to watch the sunset which is always amazing at Johanna. With our dog Miley snuggled in between us Tim popped the questions, much to my total surprise!

The planning.

Initially I was overwhelmed with trying to find the perfect destination. Tim and I wanted to invite everyone we wanted there without worrying about a limit. Once we found Wye River General Store and realised it’s max capacity was 100 we starting rethinking our guest list. From the very beginning I knew I wanted someone there to help me organise the day and I really did not want to be setting up things on my wedding day. Cara from Chic by Cara was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend her. She was so helpful with every element, all I had to do was show her what I wanted and she organised the vendors and styled the entire event.

Styling inspiration.

We were going for a cruisey cocktail wedding, we wanted everyone to relax and enjoy the day from the moment it began. We didn’t stress the small things and I think that made the day so much easier. We wanted lots of flowers and colour.

The dress.

My dress was an Anna Campbell design. I had seen the ‘Giselle’ dress online and straight away I wanted it! I went to Armadale to try it on in April and decided that if it wasn’t the one I would stick to looking at Geelong bridal shops so I didn’t stress myself out too much. However as soon as I tried the Giselle dress on I loved it! It was exactly the style I was going for, bohemian glamour.

Favourite moment.

So many! Getting ready, walking down the aisle to see Tim, our first dance. One stand out moment was a surprise from our friends. Tim has always wanted to be a world surfing champion (in his dreams) and I always wanted to marry Mick Fanning (in my dreams). So at the reception our friends hoisted us up on chairs like winners and we did a victory walk after cutting the cake! It was such a fun and amazing part of the night, seeing all our friends and family cheering us on!

Traditions.

We were not overly traditional however Dad walked me down the aisle and gave me away, we honored our mothers during the ceremony with a rose from my bouquet.

Meaning of marriage.

The symbolic uniting of two people who love each other and don’t want to spend life apart.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Blood Bank by Bon Iver

Signing the Registry: No one’s gonna love you by Band of Horses

Recessional: Hands down by Dashboard Confessional

Reception Entry: Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

First Dance: Stolen by Dashboard Confessional

Funny stories/near disasters.

My sister who was my Matron of Honor and also 7 months pregnant had a near disaster with her dress. The zip broke early in the morning and we had to literally sew her into it! We had a car drive past and almost crash into our ceremony because they were too busy watching the wedding and not watching the road! Our MC had the entire wedding reception throw us a ‘shakkas’ guard of honour while we walked to cut the cake!

Planning surprises.

I think I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the process. I thought I would be stressed but having Cara there and being able to focus on the fun, creative elements of the big day was so enjoyable.

Words of wisdom.

Get yourself a Cara! Make it as simple as possible and enjoy the process. The small things don’t matter. When I stressed over the little things like what shoes to wear; what underwear to wear; whether we needed a big cake – I would simply visualize myself on the day and work out whether this would be something I would regret not doing or whether I could live without it. It is so easy to think you need everything you see on Pinterest but step back every now and then and reassess. Don’t make your fiancé get involved in everything if its not what he wants. I found it easier when Tim wasn’t involved in every element and he trusted that I knew what we wanted for our day.

Final words.

Have fun! The only thing I stressed about were the things I couldn’t control; the weather and how fast it was all going to go. I was told by so many people ‘the day will just fly!’ I hated that because it made me worry that I would miss out on enjoying it because it goes so fast. Don’t listen to that. I loved every minute and felt the day/night went exactly to plan.
