Real Wedding – Cortney & Andrew, South Melbourne VIC

For laid back lovers Cortney and Andrew, keeping things relaxed and effortless on their day was top of the list.

From their first look moment with photography/videography team All My Wednesdays to their urban chic reception, this day is equal parts laughter, chic style and dynamic fun.

Choosing the inner city, warmly styled venue Half Acre made for a sleekly elegant backdrop to their ceremony and reception. A warm, soft colour palette of deep rose, candy pink and crisp ivory provided the perfect contrast to the venue’s exposed white brick and honey-toned walls.

Headed up by a pack of dashing groomsmen in sharp black suits and bridesmaids in sweet blush silk, Cortney and Andrew created a stunning scene as they explored Melbourne’s leafy streetscape for their portrait session.

But in our minds, the absolute best bit of the day? The mega-watt grin on Andy’s face throughout the day, an uncensored reflection of the love and delight underpinning the celebration.

The meeting.

Andy and I met through basketball. I was playing in a basketball grand final in Brisbane, and Andy was the referee. We lost the game; however, I met my future husband after that game!

The ‘one’.

Andy and I clicked from the get-go. We are both very easy-going people, so we knew early on that we were meant to be.

The proposal.

I made it very difficult for Andy to propose. I’m a very active person, and Andy had it all planned out that we would go for a bushwalk up a mountain near my hometown. For some unknown reason, I was very tired that day and didn’t feel like going on a hike. Andy clearly wanted to get the ring off his hands, so he proposed at our home in Geelong. It was perfect; we celebrated with a dinner in Torquay.

Planning process.

I was very fortunate that my twin sister had been married a year before, which allowed me to get ideas and plan and lock in some of our vendors early on.

Then, Covid hit, and everything was put on hold. For so long, we thought our wedding wouldn’t go ahead and that we would just elope. It was a stressful lead-up with lots of restrictions in place at the time. When restrictions lifted, we decided to go ahead with our dream day, so the last four weeks were very busy getting everything organized.

Style inspiration.

We had in mind that we wanted to have an urban style wedding and fell in love with our venue Half Acre as soon as we walked in.

The ceremony.

We decided to have our ceremony at Half Acre as well as our reception. With Melbourne weather being so unpredictable, we liked the idea of an indoor ceremony, and it also meant that our guests didn’t have to wait around or relocate for the reception. Our celebrant Hannah Clarke was seriously amazing. We had so many comments on how ‘lighthearted’ and ‘relaxed’ our ceremony was. It was totally us!

The outfit.

Being a twin, I wanted to make sure that I had something a little different to my sister. I tried a few dresses on but fell in love with the Tony Maticevski ‘Accompany’ dress. It was plain but detailed at the same time.

Favourite moments.

We decided to do a ‘first look’ before our ceremony. It was so special having those moments with our bridal party to get photos. It also meant that we didn’t miss any time with our guests on the day as we went from the ceremony to the reception. We also decided to have all of the formalities out of the way relatively early on in the night so we could dance the night away and enjoy our first moments as husband and wife with all of our favourite people.

Meaning of marriage.

A lifetime of love and happiness.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran

First dance: Latch by Sam Smith

Words of wisdom.

Enjoy this special time. The planning, the lead-up, the week and days before because it comes and goes in the blink of an eye. It truly is the best day of your life!
