Real Wedding – Daisy and Marc, Sydney Harbour NSW

A surprise wedding. On a boat. In Sydney Harbour. Wearing a bridal jumpsuit. Sounds like a dream to us! Daisy and Marc pulled off all of the above with superb style to create an absolutely epic event – and the shock and delight on their friend’s faces are a blast to see.

Photographer Alex Marks was there to capture all of the gorgeous details. The contrast between the all-white dress code, stunning snaps of colour in the neon peach florals and the breathtaking harbour backdrop makes for a visual treat. Daisy realised her dream of an “Elvis jumpsuit – but chic” in her incredible Saint Elia get up, and Marc looked dream-boat dashing in his custom MJ Bale suit.

If your dream day vision consists of a perfectly on point, low-key but high-class, cracking party, Daisy and Marc’s celebration is definitely worth some scrolling time.

The meeting.

We actually met at work.  I left my long-standing job in fashion to have a break and went to work in my family’s construction company for what was intended to be a short-term role.  Marc was already working in the family business as the Construction Manager.  We definitely hit it off immediately, although it took us some time to get together properly. We are also still working in the business together which is at times challenging, but for the most part is really great – we work really well together.

The ‘one’.

I actually don’t know when I realised that exactly, but I know that it is reaffirmed every single day.  We have a one-year-old together and have such a lovely life together, and I am forever grateful for that!

The proposal.

Marc did VERY well planning how best to pop the question!  We were on a private helicopter tour over New York City – my favourite place on earth.  As we were flying over Central Park as the sun was setting, he asked me to marry him.  I am very lucky!

Planning process.

We only had six months to plan our wedding so that we could use the cover story of my 30th Birthday Party to cover the day’s true intention – that we were secretly getting hitched.  That being said, we were SO lucky as I was able to secure ALL of my dream vendors (Sant Elia, Alex Marks Photography, The Make Haus and Kelly Bowman Artistry) in that timeframe.  I was also so lucky that my very best friend was able to marry us on the boat, as she has completed her celebrant course.  All the pieces of the puzzle just seemed to fit together seamlessly.

Style inspiration.

We never wanted a day that was going to be too formal.  We wanted a big party and to surprise our guests with our big day…we actually told them all that the party was a White Party for my 30th birthday. Then, when boarding the yacht, the guests were met with a sign that simply said: “Welcome to our Wedding”.  There were screams, tears, the works!  It was an epic surprise!

The outfit.

Steph from Sant Elia is the Bridal Jumpsuit Queen, so there was no one else even in the mix to create my outfit.  I asked Steph for an “Elvis Jumpsuit – but chic”, and she happily obliged.  I love the style of the 1970s, and I really wanted to emulate the “cool girl” aesthetic from that time, but with a bit of sparkle.  It really shows that Steph understood my vision from the get-go, and the outfit was absolutely perfect.

Marc also went a bit EXTRA with his outfit and got a beautiful custom-made suit from MJ Bale.  The process of creating his suit was really fun – he even has our names and the date of the wedding embroidered on the inside of the jacket.

Favourite moments.

Marc is notoriously shy when it comes to public speaking, and really was against giving a speech, so we had planned for me to speak on his behalf.  When I was reaching for the microphone to do just that, he grabbed the microphone from me and launched into a speech he had prepared earlier. He surprised me so much! Outside of Marc’s speech, the whole day was just perfect.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage is a way to further solidify our family life.  We are a close-knit unit, and I love sharing the same last name as my husband, son and the son that we have on the way.

Wedding soundtrack.

We are both keen music fans and wanted the songs to really emulate our relationship.

Aisle: Never Tear Us Apart by Inxs

Recessional: Another One Bites the Dust came blasting over the speakers as we finished saying our I Dos.

Funny stories or near disasters.

I was incredibly relaxed about organising the big day…that was until three days before the event that the super yacht that we originally booked pulled out of the booking!!  We had every single detail organised, except – no venue! And, as sod’s law goes, on the same day of our planned wedding there was a huge Sail GP event taking place in Sydney Harbour that meant finding a venue last minute was near impossible. Lucky the stars aligned and we found the Corroboree I boat for the event.

Planning surprises.

Definitely losing the venue was so close to the big day was not planned!  However, what took me by surprise is how helpful people were in assisting me with finding a Plan B. The event planner from the original venue actually stuck by me and helped secure the other super yacht and was even there on the day to make sure everything went to plan – a big THANK YOU to Bec for all of her support as we really could not have done it without her.

Words of wisdom.

You really do have to sometimes roll with the punches.  If something doesn’t go to plan, there is always a workaround.  You just need to be a little flexible with the planning, and you will make magic happen!

Last words.

Our special day was framed by the ever-gorgeous Sydney Harbour landscape, glorious weather and a really kick-ass party on a luxury super yacht – and a BIG surprise for all attendees.  It was everything we had dreamed and more. The timing was especially key, as it was one of the last large-scale wedding celebrations allowed before the world went into lockdown amid the global health crisis.
