Real Wedding – Dayne & Lidia, Tweed Coast NSW
Dayne and Lidia felt an attraction to one another from their very first meeting. And scrolling through their stunning wedding pics, it is so obvious they still feel all the same feels!
A true romantic at heart, Dayne surprised Lidia by proposing on a cliff face overlooking a beach in Portugal. That sense of romantic, spontaneous and natural fun set the tone for their wedding; keeping things elegant but simple allowed their love and laughter to take centre stage.
Lidia’s stunning, one of a kind gown by the incredible Karen Willis Holmes was only overshone by her radiant smile and Dayne’s emotion-filled expression as she walked down the aisle toward him.
And we completely agree with Lidia’s advice to couples planning their own wedding… don’t put up fairy lights together, it could end your marriage before it begins!
Photographers Bulb Creative captured every emotion as the day evolved.
The meeting.
Through a mutual friend on a night out. The 2nd of February 2019. Exactly one year before our wedding. Pretty much I saw Dayne from across the room and said to my girlfriend, who is THAT? Dayne wandered by a little later and briefly introduced himself… And it’s all history from there!
The ‘one’.
Two weeks later on Valentine’s Day Dayne set up a beautiful candlelit dinner he made himself, with a rose and my favourite artist playing. I knew he was the guy.
The proposal.
Dayne took me to Portugal to meet my distant family and planned to take me to Azenhas do Mar (a beautiful little beach town on a cliff face), where I’ve wanted to visit for a very long time. We drove there and went to look over the cliff’s edge, and I noticed a beautiful little picnic set up on the edge. I initially thought it was for someone else, so I kept moving away as he tried to pull me closer. When I realised it was for us, we sat down, and it had all my favourite foods there along with some wine. He does romantic things all the time, so I didn’t think it was going to happen. He told me to go look at the water, and when I turned around he was on one knee, and we both just started crying. Sneaky guy had a photographer there hiding and everything. Organised it all from Australia to happen in Portugal!
Planning process.
We didn’t really have a process… just a BIG checklist. Dayne planned most of it himself and organised everything.
Style inspiration.
We just wanted it to be very us. We aren’t very extravagant people, and we wanted something beautiful, simple, elegant and most of all, fun.
The outfit.
I tried on a few dresses at KWH and decided on a dress. I took my mum with me, and she made me try on a dress I would never have picked myself. When I put it on (just to please her), I started crying and felt so beautiful and knew it was the one. I picked my shoes randomly, and I loved how simple they were in contrast to my gorgeous dress.
Favourite moments.
Saying our vows, and our dancing entrance into the reception!
Meaning of marriage.
To choose each other, every single day, no matter what life throws at us. To grow together and to make a beautiful life together.

Funny stories or near disasters.
Not really, we were very blessed to have such great service from all our wedding day suppliers.
Planning surprises.
We didn’t realise how many little details there was to organise. But that’s about it.
Words of wisdom.
Give yourself plenty of time to plan. Start as soon as you can. And don’t try put up fairy lights together, it could end your marriage.
