Real Wedding – Emma & Chris, Wonga Park VIC

It was private property perfection when Emma and Chris wed at a family property in Wonga Park.

Being an ‘at home’ wedding, there was much to do, but family and friends pitched in every step of the way, giving the day itself an even more magical feeling.

Setting up a Sperry tent under the stars, they made it their mission to not sweat the small stuff and instead focus on a gathering filled with their favourite people, fabulous food and a whole lot of fun.

Taking a walk at sunset to soak up their love and their stunning surrounds, Tribe talent Ali Bailey captured this stunning celebration in all its glory.

In Emma and Chris’ words…

The meeting.

We met in 2012, out in the city one night through friends who worked together (my friend worked with his friend).

The ‘one’.

Emma: When ‘like’ became ‘love’ – we had been dating for a few months, and he became my best friend.

Chris: I just knew, I didn’t want to do life with anyone else; it’s just a feeling and you know.

The proposal.

One day we did a day trip down to Sorrento. We were eating fish and chips on the beach, and Chris (who usually hates when I ask him for a photo) suggested we take a selfie at the beach – then he did a sneaky and put the ring into the picture!

Planning process.

I had gathered various images that made up our theme, and we just started to contact the suppliers we thought could help us make it happen. We wanted to create a magical space that our guests would enjoy – a full set up on my mum and step-dad’s property in Wonga Park.

So many people helped us to create the perfect day. My step-dad built a deck over the dam for our ceremony – which created the perfect scene for our I do’s! In the week leading up to the big day, we had so much help from family members doing bits and pieces, it was such a special time in our lives, and we’re so grateful for all the help we received.

Style inspiration.

Our theme was modern, with textural elements – so we had a lot of white/light grey, with moody, textural flowers. Our favourite part was the beautiful Sperry Tent – it really helped to create a magical vibe!

The dress.

I went dress shopping with my mum, sister, nanna and soon to be mother-in-law. I had made three appointments at different bridal shops. The first dress I tried on at the first shop was the one! I tried on other dresses and went to all the appointments, but nothing compared!

Favourite moment.

When we went off to have sunset photos, and we walked back to the set-up, hand in hand, the sun was nearly down, but it all just looked so perfect and magical; seeing our nearest and dearest all enjoying themselves and having everyone here celebrating our love and marriage; it was a really special feeling.

Meaning of marriage.

Doing life with your best friend; enjoying even the smallest moments and tackling the biggest challenges together; being on the same team. It’s laughing with each other, talking to each other, exploring together and dancing in the kitchen!

Wedding soundtrack.

Walking down the aisle: I Get to Love You, by Ruelle

Just Married: You Make My Dreams, by Hall & Oates

Reception Entry: Sweet Lovin’, by Sigala

First Dance – Just the Way You Are, by Billy Joel

Words of wisdom.

As long as the fundamentals are all sorted, the finer details won’t matter – your guests won’t know if a floral arrangement should have looked different, if the place cards didn’t turn out as expected; so don’t sweat the small stuff, try and enjoy the process and not forget what it’s all about!

It can be a stressful and tiring lead up, but on the day, nothing else matters but you two, your friends and family, and it will be one of the best days of your life!

Anita and Brenton sure know how to throw a party! Head here for all the fun and frivolity of this sweet celebration.
