Real Wedding – Georgia & Chris, East Melbourne VIC

Magical Melbourne was the perfect location for Georgia and Chris to declare their love for each other in front of their favourite family and friends.

They hosted their ceremony in Fitzroy Gardens with some enthusiastic onlookers before making their way to Noisy Ritual to party the night away.

This couple didn’t get caught up on the look of their day, rather they focused on how it would feel. What resulted was a fun affair, full of love and I Got You Babe & Co captured all the beautiful moments.

In their words…

The meeting.

Georgia: I was working at a pub in the city. My manager who I was friends with used to have ‘boys dinners’ with his high school mates. One boys’ dinner was at the pub and I got to meet his friends. The following shift we worked he asked me who I thought was hot. I replied ‘the one with the piercing’. He said ‘no one had a piercing’ but I was convinced otherwise. Chris did in fact have an eyebrow piercing… We saw each other again at a party at my manager’s house. We were too shy to talk to each other again. It wasn’t until an after party for the Phoenix concert we met again. I was inside the club standing in an arch doorway facing the entrance when I saw Chris walk in. He saw me immediately and came up to me insisting he get my number and he had regretted not getting it before. We messaged each other all night and ended up hanging out together plus Patty (Chris’s best mate). I went home with Chris that night and the rest is history!

The ‘one’.

Georgia: I don’t think there was a particularly poignant moment. We just started making life plans together and I thought ‘Okay, this guy is the real deal’. I think deep down I always knew Chris and I would be together but I had to play it cool.

The proposal.

Georgia: We got engaged in Europe 2016. We had booked a degustation at an amazing restaurant in San Sebastian before we even left for the holiday. At dinner, Chris proposed a toast to us. He then proceeded to reach into his pocket and I began to swear. He asked me to marry him and the rest is history.
Also note: one of our courses was a squid ink ravioli. The waiter specifically told us to place it in our mouth so the pasta could melt, and not to bite into it. Classic Chris ignored this advice and bit into it, spraying black ink across the table, onto the table cloth and down his chin. It was totally hilarious and embarrassing at the same time. The staff had to come clean up and put down a new tablecloth…

Style inspiration.

We are both similar in style, we love clean, modern and stylish things that are simple. We focused more on how things would be enjoyed by others rather than what the day might look like.

The dress.

The dress was not my first dress purchase. I had bought one earlier that fit me so well and worked beautifully with my figure but I came to feel like it wasn’t really ‘me’. I saw the Byron gown on the One Day Bridal website and decided to book an appointment. I tried it on and fell in love!

Favourite moments.

Chris: Spending most of the day with Georgia and our close friends before the ceremony.

Georgia: Deciding to do the ‘first look’ photos was the best decision we made. Having time to hang out and have a few drinks before the ceremony was magic.

Meaning of marriage.

Georgia: Giving each other space to grow, and loving each other with the security to know that what we have will be forever.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Girl by City and Colour

Reception Entry: September by Earth, Wind, Fire

First dance: Best Friend by Queen

Last song: Finally by Cece Peniston

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Georgia: Getting married in a public space means there’s the potential of an audience. Before I made my way down the aisle, footy punters were walking through the park after a game. I got lots of compliments and well wishes which was funny from strangers on such an intimate day. Most notably, a tourist who tried to stop me mid-aisle walk with my Dad for a photo.

Planning surprises.

Georgia: Getting to know the vendors and forming friendships with them.

Chris: Going to the venues/to meet vendors. In particular, heading to Noisy Ritual to have a drink and meet Kate. We loved the place immediately and paid the deposit straight away. Your gut knows when it’s right.

Words of wisdom.

Georgia: Your wedding day is a celebration of your love with your partner – let it reflect that. Only do what feels right for you.

Chris: Give yourself time on the day to spend with your partner and bridal party. You won’t regret it.

Ash and Paddy love St Kilda, so it was only natural they would wed in a relaxed yet romantic St Kilda celebration. Check it out here.
