Real wedding – Hannah & Scott, Myrniong VIC

In a gorgeous, DIY dream, high school sweethearts Scott and Hannah celebrated their love.

Their Myrniong winery wedding was filled with creative touches – rustic vintage charm, all perfected with beautiful pink hued-blooms.

Following a loved up ceremony with many giggles, the couple walked hand-in-hand among the vines before celebrating into the night.

Beautifully captured by Elk & Willow, this wedding embodies sweet moments and pure love.

IN HANNAH’S WORDS…

The meeting.

We are high school sweethearts! My best friend was actually interested in him first, and I remember trying to set them up. Luckily enough, one day at a skate comp we had our first kiss, and the rest was history!

The one.

We did have a break for about a year at the end of high school, though we still remained best friends. When we got back together I just knew this was it. Also when Scott would propose every time we were out with our friends, I realised this guy was the one for me!

Planning process.

We booked everything in advance not long after we were engaged. It was so easy and so much fun! I had huge help from my sister who is a graphic designer, she helped plan everything. My mum and nanna played a large role in the planning too.

Style inspiration.

We had our wedding at a winery so we went for a rustic and vintage feel. I loved that we had lots of flowers and we did a lot of DIY. Scott helped spray paint many wine bottles, my sister did all the stationery and signage and my dad made the wooden arch we were married under. I was very lucky to have such a creative bunch.

The dress.

I went with my mum and nanna to have a look down Sydney Road in Brunswick to see what was our there. Little did I know I actually found my dress at the first shop we went to. I first tried on lace dresses which I originally wanted but they didn’t look quite right on me. My nanna spotted this beautiful beaded gown hiding behind a corner and as soon as I put it on we all knew it was the one – I couldn’t stop touching it! I think I walked around the shop for a good 20 minutes because I didn’t want to take it off – it was so elegant and beautiful.

Favourite moment.

Walking down the aisle, to our favourite song (Boy & Bear – Walking on a dream) and seeing Scott’s big beautiful smile that was just for me! His speech was pretty impressive too.

Meaning of marriage.

It means I get to spend the rest of my life growing old with my best friend.

Wedding soundtrack:

Aisle – Walking on a dream by Boy & Bear

End of ceremony – Use Somebody by Kings of Leon

Reception entrance – Happy by Pharrell Williams

First dance – XO by John Mayer

Circle of goodbyes – Hold On We’re Going Home by Lakyn Heperi

Funny stories.

Our celebrant accidentally said to Scott, ‘would you take Hannah to be your lawful wedded husband’ instead of wife. Everyone had a good chuckle. We also had huge light up love letters on the dance floor and one of our guests was accidentally knocked back into one letter and fell back into the band. We can laugh about it now!

Planning surprises.

It was surprisingly stress free! I always hear of brides so stressed out and losing sleep over it but for us it was a fun and easy experience.

Words of wisdom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff.  We did a lot of DIY which helped save some costs. Enjoy the whole process it’s such an exciting time in your life!
