Real Wedding – Jasmine & Daniel, South Melbourne VIC
Jasmine and Daniel are proof that creating a day that reflects your style as a couple as well as enlisting a killer Tribe, will ensure that every aspect of your celebration will be filled with fun!
Overlooking Melbourne’s skyline, this perfect pair exchanged their vows before getting straight into the party. They wanted their day to be modern and full of high energy and they kept the momentum going from start to finish.
There were so many incredible moments throughout their day, but the rapping and beat-boxing from their MC’s truly brought the house down. Be sure to watch their video right through to the end for a cheeky little sample!
LJM Photography was there every step of the way, so get scrolling for this upbeat and unique day.
In Jasmine’s words…
The meeting.
We met when we were 16 at QBH underage (ha). We grew up and being best friends and took some occasional breaks for travel but found ourselves continually coming back to eachother.
The proposal.
Daniel proposed first thing in the morning (like, 6:30am) on the first day of our holiday in Hawaii, he dragged my grumpy bum out of bed to Waikiki beach. He did this because he knew the beach gets crowded all day and night and wanted it to be virtually empty, which it was. When we got to the beach, he then pretended he had to run back to the toilet but was fetching the ring which was hidden in the suitcase, and I waited on the beach. When he returned, he dropped his knee and proposed and I almost choked on my coffee. For some reason I thought it was a gag, so it took more than a couple of seconds to sink in before responded “are you f**ing serious?”. I definitely was not expecting it.
Style inspiration.
We wanted a modern wedding with a vibe to keep everyone with high energy and a want to party. We achieved this by getting everyone up for a dance as soon as we entered the room and kept the momentum going with short and sweet speeches and a couple of MC’s who are natural comedians, using slap-stick, song and even raps! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, mainly due to all the laughter.
The gown.
My dress was made by Sonia Cappellazzo of Cappellazzo Couture. After trying on many beaded and lacy numbers and my family in fits of laughter, it was clear that I was not going to suit the classic wedding dress styles.
From my first appointment she read me like a book and knew exactly the type of dress that I was after. She even added a striking black strap to the dress, which added a perfectly modern twist to the neoprene masterpiece Sonia created.
Favourite moments.
Having an impromptu dance off with my husband to Bohemian Rhapsody at the end of the night donning our “just married” leather jackets!
My brother dressing up as a train conductor and signaling in the bridal party with paddles while “Ride the train” was playing!
Meaning of marriage.
Betting someone half your entire belongings that you’ll love them forever.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: Here Comes the Sun
Recessional: Grow old with you
First Dance: Bohemian Rhapsody
Funny stories (or near disasters).
Yes, my mum becoming best friends with all of my suppliers! As I worked full-time, most of my appointments were straight after work or later, as she knew I’d be hungry, she would bring along a little antipasto platter for me and our suppliers to snack on in consultations. As a result, we had far more appointments than the average bride and would often end up a few wines in and still chatting away at 10pm! I developed such a good rapport and friendship with all my suppliers, and they truly put their hearts into everything on the day. I am so grateful for all of their efforts.
On the day; The MC’s were by far what made our wedding special – most of our guests probably won’t forget them beatboxing and rapping then making the crowd join in. We were still waiting to enter the reception while this was happening, and I remember laughing our heads off with the bridal party just DYING to come out.
Words of wisdom.
Don’t sweat the small stuff and follow what your gut feels comfortable with. Make sure you trust your vendors and cultivate good relationships with them. You want to be on the same page.
Also, make sure your choices are guided only by your own visions and not by someone else’s. You won’t regret it.
I’m really glad we chose to put our bridal table in the middle of the room with all the guests tables surrounding us. It made us feel totally surrounded and immersed with love.
Vendor love.
Without a doubt our photographer Lauren Marshall of LJM Photography, our videographer Anthony Spiteri from Video Boutique and our Florist Shane from ‘Botanics of Melbourne’.
The hard work and dedication all of them clearly shone through in what was produced on the day.
Daniel and I felt so at ease with each vendor in the lead up to and on the day, we had lots of laughs and felt like we were perfectly understood.
