Real Wedding – Jess & Cameron, Mornington Peninsula VIC

Jess’ parents certainly came up with the goods when they allowed Jess and Cameron to celebrate their forever after on their beautiful Mornington Peninsula property.

They kept the day simple and surrounded themselves with native flowers and pops of colour that highlighted the beautiful landscape.

Surrounded by tip’s from our favourites at Tipi Tribe, they danced up a storm with their nearest and dearest and there to capture the action was Smith + Archer.

In Jess’ words…

The meeting.

‘Jess and Cameron have been an important part of one an-other’s lives for some time! They first met 15 years ago, in 2002, at the Frankston Cultural Centre! Cam remembers this meeting vividly. He was playing in a band as part of his School Performing Arts Night and was backstage getting ready when his best mate strolled in, hand in hand with the beautiful Jess; having just started dating. Cam recalls having to do a double take, thinking to himself “Crikey, who is this stunner, and what is she doing with my mate!”

As it happens, Jess and Cam’s friendship grew; Jess and Cam’s mate drifted apart and naturally Jess grew fonder of Cam than Cam’s mate! Looking back, it would seem to have been quite obvious to everyone else that Jess was trying to show Cam that she was keen! However Cam uses youth as an excuse for his oblivion; that, and his staunch commitment to his ‘bro-code’ and ‘mates before dates’ policies! This naturally distanced himself from Jess in favour of his best mates friendship; and not long after, Cam moved interstate to join the Army; nothing eventuating from that initial spark….. yet !

High School came and went, and Cam’s friendship with his ‘mate’ faded. As it happens with true love brewing- Jess and Cam re-kindled their friendship. Each Christmas, Cam would return home on leave, and Jess and Cam would catch up for a bite….. usually at The Bay Hotel in Mornington. The Christmas of 2009, 7 years after first meeting one another, Cam and Jess caught up as “friends” for the last time, as the spark was re-ignited next minute Cam found Jess surprising him with a visit to Darwin! As they say, the rest is history, and here we all stand today, celebrating Jess and Cam’s beautiful romance.’ Excerpt from Emma Tomlinson ceremony  (Celebrant)

The one.

I don’t know there was just one moment – I think there were a few little moments over the past 8 years, especially through tougher times that we both realised we couldn’t live without one another.

The proposal.

It was Easter Sunday 2017 and we took our boys (golden fur babes Charlie and Cooper) for an afternoon at our favourite beach at Somers in trackies, no make up, messy hair (you get the picture). I turned around from watching the boys play in the water to find Cameron down on one knee asking me to be his forever! I was absolutely speechless but finally managed a ‘yes’!

The planning.

Months filled full of excitement, stress but ultimately planning our perfect day. It was the most incredible day but it went by far too fast! We made some beautiful lifelong friends along the planning journey in sourcing the most amazing suppliers.

Style inspiration.

We both wanted to capture the essence of who we are in our big day and have a relaxed, family friendly, fun filled celebration that still included the traditions that were important to us.

The dress.

My dress was pure magic. It was created by the beautiful and super talented Tania Stokes of Tania Stokes Design. She truly made all my dress dreams a reality. We were able to use my Nanna’s button collection to make the dress all the more perfect as well as a super special blue silk heart stitched into the inside of my dress that was my Nanna’s original fabric swatches which were posted to her whilst designing her own wedding gown 67 years ago.

Favourite moment/s.

Having our most loved and favourite people in the same place at the same time witnessing our ceremony. Friends and family travelled from interstate and overseas to be apart of our day which we will be forever thankful for.

The meaning of marriage.

Commitment to the one who has given your life happiness and meaning, and there is no greater happiness than that of sharing a life filled with love.

Funny stories/near disasters.

Cameron’s ‘surprise’ helicopter transport was cancelled the morning of the day before the wedding which was a near disaster. But my Dad saved the day when he found a replacement within the hour; a true legend.

Planning surprises.

How quickly the weeks and days in the lead up to the day went by. It felt as though one minute we had months or at least weeks to get all the ‘last minute’ things done, but it was as if suddenly the day had arrived and I still hadn’t written my vows until three hours before the ceremony.

Words of wisdom.

Stay true to yourselves. We were so in love with every element of our wedding as we made sure each detail was about who we are and all we are about. Don’t let others influence your big ideas or dreams. Follow your heart, don’t sweat the small stuff and just have the best day. It goes by so fast so remember to breathe and take it all in whenever possible!

Last words.

So much love and gratitude to my parents for allowing our big day to take place at their home. All the preparation and maintenance they did was incredible. It means the world to both of us and our day couldn’t have been more perfect. Also, a big thank you and much love to our friends and family who travelled from far and wide to be a part of the celebration – you all made our day perfect.
