Real Wedding – Jessica & Hayden, Brunswick East VIC

We are all about making your wedding your own, so scrolling Jess & Hayden’s urban-cool celebration was a total treat. These two pulled their I-Do day together in just six months, and weren’t afraid to create their own traditions to construct a relaxed celebration that felt perfectly true to them.

The result? A day that was pure party, with all the feels you would expect at a gorgeously genuine wedding.

Jess wowed in a rose gold sequinned number created for her by a talented friend, and Hayden cut a dapper figure in a beautiful blue three-piece suit by Soho Workshop. Their wine barrel backdrop was enhanced to perfection with on-point florals in tones of deep burgundy and rich greens with pops of cream, pink and red.

Tribe fave Amanda Alessi kept the newlyweds camera-comfortable, capturing the emotion of the day in all its blissful beauty against backdrops of quintessential Melbourne streets and laneways.

The meeting.

We met at my sister Steph’s birthday (at Cookie in Melbourne’s CBD), seven years ago.

The ‘one’.

We knew we had found the ‘one’ when we realised we had found home, in each other.

The proposal.

We were glamping in the Grampians. Hayden popped the question at the bottom of a beautiful waterfall.

Planning process.

We had a short engagement (less than six months), so we planned things QUICKLY!

Style inspiration.

We wanted it to reflect us and be a place everyone could feel welcome. Our priority was creating a fun day for us and our guests. We weren’t afraid to go against the tradition if something else made more sense for us.

The look.

My dress was a custom-made gown (made by Sandra Venetti, my amazing sewing teacher). I always knew I didn’t want white – I love colour & sparkle, so I loved the rose gold sequined fabric we were able to find.

Hayden looks amazing in blue, so we knew what we were looking for a blue suit from the start. The hardest part of Hayden’s outfit was finding a shirt that fit perfectly!

Favourite moments.

Definitely walking down the aisle as a newly married couple!

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage means forever, saying yes to each other, forever. It’s a commitment to always be there to support each other.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Make You Feel My Love by Adele

Recessional: Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder

Funny stories or near disasters.

The day before the wedding, my car got towed. The night before the wedding, we did have a fake tan disaster that led to Hayden running to Priceline just before they closed and coming home with enough fake tan to bronze an army!

Planning surprises.

How amazingly happy everyone was for us was the best surprise. And sometimes the devil is in the detail – the small decisions can take the longest!

Words of wisdom.

There’s lots of pressure when planning a wedding – it’s stressful! Remember to take a breath and make sure you plan a day that suits you; it’s YOUR day after all!

And remember to ask for help – we learnt that everyone loves a wedding – our brilliant families and friends were happy to help out wherever they could.

JESS & HAYDEN’S VENDORS

Ceremony and reception venue: Noisy Ritual, Brunswick East. Our venue couldn’t have turned out any better. The staff were amazing, and our guests felt instantly at home.

Celebrant: Danielle Rinon. Danielle was the perfect celebrant; she made our ceremony personal & informal.

Photography: Amanda Alessi Photography.. Amanda was amazing, neither of us are a huge fan of having our photos taken, but she made us feel comfortable and made it fun! And the resulting photos are beautiful – we couldn’t be happier.

Florist: Fowlers Flowers. We kept things simple with flowers; just bridal bouquets & an arbour as the ceremony backdrop. I think all flowers are beautiful, so I left most of the details to the experts – it turned out wonderfully.

Hair and make-up: Trish Sousa. Trish had done my hair and make-up when I was a bridesmaid for a friend a few years ago – I knew straight away she was the person I could trust on the big day!

The Dress: Sandra Venetti. Sandra is my sewing teacher & the ONLY person I could imagine putting in charge of arguably the most important part of my wedding!

Veil / headwear: Etsy

Shoes: My own, rose gold is such a favourite I already had the perfect pair!

Rings: Cushla Whiting. Cushla made my engagement ring & both our wedding rings. A friend introduced me to them & the experience was incredible.

Bridesmaid’s dresses: Whistles

Groom’s suit and tie: Soho Workshop

Catering: Ella Mittas. Ella’s food was one of THE highlights of the night. We loved the generosity & amazing middle eastern flavours.

Bar: Noisy Ritual

Cake / Cake topper: Burch & Purchese. We chose Peach Melba as the flavour, it looked beautiful & tasted even better.

Stationery / Signage: Etsy, and Hayden’s dad Michael.

Entertainment: DJ Apples (Chris Appleton). The dance floor was one of the things I was looking forward to most & Chris made sure we had an amazing time.

Honeymoon: Port Douglas, the perfect getaway.
