Real Wedding – LouLou & Angus, Coldstream VIC

Instagram is where LouLou and Angus’ love story began, and it proved to be an invaluable tool when it came to wedding planning too!

Selecting a Tribe of talent (after a good Instagram stalk of course), this darling duo chose the Yarra Valley to host their wedding celebrations.

Wanting something fresh, fun and easy, they opted to be married in winter surrounded by dusty pink florals and lovely natives.

LouLou was a vision as she made her way down the aisle towards her happily-ever-after and the talented Ali Bailey shot this celebration to perfection.

In LouLou’s words…

The meeting.

We first met in March 2017! I found my husband on Instagram, ha ha. I was living in Queensland and I went down to Melbourne for a course, we caught up… and the rest is history.

The ‘one’.

On our first date – we went and did chin ups together at a local park with his dog Bruce the French Bulldog!

The proposal.

It was a Sunday and it was raining and Angus said, “let’s go do some exercise and then go for a bush walk,” and so that’s what we did. After we did a workout he went up and got changed and came outside with a cap on and I made some comment like “oh, who is this sexy young man” and here I was a sweaty mess wearing the same exercise clothes.

Angus got permission from my mum and dad which was really important to me. We walked down to the big rock overlooking all of Eagle Bay. Angus had run some champagne and two glasses up earlier that day – such a confident romantic. There was literally a torrential downpour and howling winds and I said along the walk it was just like Tasmania! (wind and rain makes Angus feel at home). We got to the top and he dropped to one knee and had the ring in his pocket and the only thing I remember him saying was “Louise…” and then I can’t remember the rest! But I was surprised, we had a drink and celebrated.

The process.

As I said before – we literally did most things via Instagram! We found the venue, and booked for about a year and two months out because that was what was available – and then didn’t do anything else for ages. It all came together in the last bit! I booked our photographer after a skype meeting and a good Instagram stalk, I booked our flowers over email after a good Instagram stalk and it was totally convenient because the providore were on site at the Stones of the Yarra Valley.

Style inspiration.

Winter wedding – something fresh and easy and fun was really important! Wanted furs, and beautiful dusty pink flowers and lovely natives.

The dress.

Answer: I booked one dress place and I went with my mum and it was the 5th dress I tried on and I came out and she cried of happiness and I felt really comfortable and that was it! I wanted a fur so went with a blush pink. My dress was crepe and quite simple so I went extravagant on the veil and I wanted to be classic so I could look back and still love it – I thought classic was safe!

Favourite moments.

After the ceremony we (my new husband and I) went upstairs in the Chapel and our band was playing on the amazing grand piano and we were looking down on all of our friends and it was just amazing to have everyone you love be in the one place and celebrate love!

Meaning of marriage.

I chose to be with Angus for the rest of my life because he expects more out of me that I ever could myself, because he believes in me 100%. He calls me on my bullshit – and it isn’t always easy but I have grown more in two years and he has been patient and stood by me every step of the way. Marriage is being committed to the good, the bad and everything in between that the other has to offer.

Wedding soundtrack.

Processional: Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole

Signing of the registry: Shallow by Lady Gaga

Recessional: You’ve got the love by Florence and the Machine

First dance: Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Angus didn’t want to get dressed when Ali our photographer was there to take photos of him, ha ha, but that was it!

Planning surprises.

No – I think if you just stay relaxed and let everyone do their job (they are the professionals after all) then it is super easy and fun.

Words of wisdom.

  1. Let everyone do their job (they are the professionals after all), then it is super easy and fun.
  2. Look on Instagram to choose your hair and make up and have your trial the week before so then it is fresh in their mind. Give good feedback until you get what you want- after all you chose them because you like their stuff.
  3. Dance lessons are the best and most fun thing you’ll do planning your wedding!
  4. I got my husband to choose a new perfume for me for my wedding day. Every time you wear it you can think of that day!
  5. Rather than just a wedding book – we got polaroid cameras and asked guests to stick photos in the guest book (over-cater for film because people will steal them haha)
  6. On our signing table we had photos of weddings of our parents and grandparents, and that was really nice!
  7. Live music is the best – get a band.
  8. Kick off your reception by introducing the bridal party, cut the cake, followed by the first dance to set the tone of the night – FUN!

LOULOU & ANGUS’ TRIBE

Ceremony: Stones of the Yarra Valley – Chapel.

Reception: Stones of the Yarra Valley – The Barn.

Celebrant/Officiant:  Diane Moore – The Owl & Pussycat Celebrations – Di flew all the way from Dunsborough, WA. Di made our ceremony truly ours and it was the best to have someone from home there.

Photography: Ali Bailey – I booked Ali after perusing her Instagram – Ali is all about capturing emotion and moments rather than orchestrating pictures. Ali was warm, friendly, professional, creative and just a pleasure to share my wedding day with! Her photography was natural and used beautiful light. Angus was more camera shy and we had the attitude of get in and get out with our photos and I couldn’t of been more pleased with our wedding album.

Florist: The Providore at Meletos – The girls did the best job. I used one picture for inspiration and said go wild, it was really cool to have a surprise. They showed you a really succinct few options of styling packages and options and it made it really easy to choose.

Hair and make-up: Tanya Artistry – Tanya did both my hair and my make up and was all about the complete look. Tanya did such a great job of taking feedback and altering the trial look until I was 100% happy. Then she totally knocked it out of the ball park on the day. I was so happy.

The dress: Bridal By Aubrey Rose – Perth.

Veil / headwear: Twigs and Honey

Shoes: Moschino

Rings: Linneys

Bridesmaid’s dresses: Natalie Rolt

Groomsmen’s suits: Institchu

Cake / Cake topper: Miss Ladybird Cakes

Entertainment: Like This (band) – These guys were the best – oh my gosh totally made our day. The singer’s voice is amazing and they got our entire wedding up and dancing. We had the best time and live music totally makes your day!
