Real Wedding – Lucy & Jackson, Yarra Glen VIC
Entering a rustic barn in the beautiful Yarra Valley, Lucy paused for a second to take the moment in before she made the way down the aisle to her groom Jackson.
Despite the torrential rain that poured down on their wedding day, they didn’t let it dampen their spirits in any way.
In a stunning Helen Manuell design, Lucy’s dress was everything she had dreamed of and made for many magical moments that It’s Beautiful Here have memorably captured.
In Lucy’s words…
The meeting.
We met in our first year of University. We lived on the same floor at College and were good friends for a long time first.
The one.
When we didn’t kill each other after travelling and moving in together.
The proposal.
Jackson proposed on my birthday after a dinner with my family. We went for a walk and he proposed in a park with no one else around. Was very romantic and low key, exactly how I dreamt it would be.
Style inspiration.
We wanted a big party with all of our friends and family, with lots of food and wine. I have been thinking about planning my wedding since I was a kid and my style hasn’t really changed since then. I have always wanted a big wedding with a big white dress and pink flowers.
The dress.
My mum, my bridesmaids and I went to a few stores around Melbourne and tried on dress after dress and I loved every single one, which made it very difficult. I couldn’t decide and it was really hard with work to travel from Geelong to Melbourne to keep trying on dresses, so I stopped looking for a couple of weeks. My sister found a dress on Instagram and my mum organised to go and try it on. As soon as I did, I knew it was the one. It was so beautiful and I finally felt like a bride. It was exactly what I had been looking for.
Favorite moment/s.
My favourite moment was standing at the start of the aisle and seeing every important person in my life in one room, with my parents standing by my side and the love of my life at the end.
The meaning of marriage.
To me, marriage means being able to be completely and unashamedly be yourself, while being accepted and loved for it. It means to never be alone and having your best friend with you for the rest of your life.

Funny stories/near disasters.
In the week leading up to the wedding, the news was full of weather warnings for Victoria predicting the biggest storms and rainfall in decades. I had thought I had mentally prepared myself for the worst weather possible. However, I didn’t actually believe that the most amount of rain literally in my entire life would fall on my wedding day. I am told it is very good luck to have rain on your wedding day!
Planning surprises.
I did not realise how hard it would be to choose a wedding dress. It was an easy choice once I found the one but in the lead up trying on dozens of dresses was very confusing and stressful!
Words of wisdom.
The best advice that I received for my wedding day was to stop at the start of the aisle and look up and take it all in for a moment. Also, spend as much time with your wife/husband during the day because it absolutely flies by.
