Real Wedding – Madison & Jeremy, Goornong VIC

Upon their engagement, Madison and Jeremy were excited to plan an incredible wedding day by spoiling their guests with all their favourite things.

Married at a beautiful olive grove they went about creating an elegant boho theme. Not wanting to take away from the beautiful space, they used the nature around them, greenery and fresh florals to enhance their surrounds.

Hitting the dance floor they celebrated into the night and Photography by Sarah J was there to capture it all.

In Madison’s words…

The meeting.

Jeremy had only just moved to town that weekend, which happened to be Australia Day. I was having a party at my place to celebrate the occasion and listen to the iconic Triple J Hottest 100. Jeremy rocked up with a few mutual friends he had met earlier that day. The rest is history!

The ‘one’.

We were both serving as volunteers at a youth group one night, and I remember just watching him from afar and having this subtle feeling inside that he really was the one.

The proposal.

We went for a weekend away to Apollo Bay (where I grew up). We decided to spend a day at the Californian Redwoods, which is a really special spot for both of us as we have spent a lot of time there previously and had a few dates there. Anyway, we decided to do a bit of photography and filming for a personal project, so as he was ‘adjusting the light’ and I was standing there looking silly, but in fact he was actually putting the camera on film mode and then he walked straight over to me and got down on one knee – caught it all on DIY camera!

The planning.

I am huge on event planning and hosting events, so I was so excited to plan an incredible day to celebrate our love! We said from the very beginning that we wanted to create a day that was to bless all the people we love the most with all of our favourite things. I had a million and one lists going at one time, and did all of my own copious amounts of research online to find what we wanted.

Style inspiration.

I called our style ‘elegant boho’. The idea behind the theme was to create a space where people felt incredibly comfortable, but also spoiled at the same time. We spent a lot of effort on picking food to complement our surroundings. Our decorations were focused on using the nature around us and not taking away from the beautiful olive grove and greenery at the venue.

The dress.

My dress was a custom made gown from Poppy’s Bridal Couture in Bendigo. It was a full lace body with long sleeves and a low cut back.

At first I was actually getting my dress made by another local lady in Bendigo but she ended up cancelling on me. I was very stressed at this point, until one of my friends recommended Poppy’s Bridal Couture. I called them up on the spot and I was in there having a consult half an hour later! They were brilliant and created exactly what I wanted.

Favourite moments.

Maddie: My favourite moment of the day was our first dance. The song ‘Green Eyes’ by Coldplay is very special to us (because we both have green eyes!). We know all the words to the song, so as we were dancing we were also singing the words to each other. It was a really intimate moment that made us feel like we were the only two people at the party.

Jeremy: My favourite part of the day was when the bridesmaids and Maddie were walking down the aisle. I knew the order of the bridesmaids, so when each of them walked down, I knew Maddie was getting closer and closer. When it came to her walking down the aisle, I was so happy and excited, knowing that this was the beginning of our new life together.

Meaning of marriage.

It’s hard to put marriage into words. We feel that our favourite quote says it all – Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
“Love participates of the soul itself. It is of the same nature. Like it, it is the divine spark, it is incorruptible, indivisible, imperishable. It is a point of fire that exists within us, which is immortal and infinite, which nothing can confine, and which nothing can extinguish. We feel it burning even to the very marrow of our bones, and we see it beaming in the very depths of heaven.

Marriage to us means partnering together in this wild, exhilarating and unpredictable adventure called life and continuing to fall in love with each other all over again each day.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Til Kingdom Come by Coldplay

First dance: Green Eyes by Coldplay

Father/daughter dance: Cracklin’ Rosie by Neil Diamond

Funny stories (or near disasters).

There were many great moments – but one of the funniest was when everyone was on the dance floor singing along to an old classic and our friend Nick jumped up on the mic and took over! Annabelle (the lead singer of Little Buster Brown) embraced it and jumped on the dance floor with the guests.

Planning surprises.

Your vendors are so key! I didn’t realise how many great vendors can go above and beyond to help bring your day together. I would definitely recommend looking into some good vendors that you can bounce ideas off and that are open to your vision.

Words of wisdom.

Embrace every moment of your day. It goes so, so fast and feels surreal! Make sure you try all of your food, take a moment to just look around and admire your guests and try and sneak a special moment of just the two of you to celebrate the beginning of an awesome new chapter!
