Real Wedding – Mancy & Adrian, St Kilda VIC

Even the thought of their wedding plans still brings a smile to bride Mancy’s face. She and Adrian spent six months working as the dream team they are to create an intimate and romantic celebration of their love.

Keeping relaxed throughout their planning process, they are proud to have pulled off a stress-free day surrounded by fifty of their loved ones, set in the stunning George Ballroom, St Kilda.

Low key as it was, this day truly shone with all the special details, Mancy looked a dream and the tell-tale smiles on their faces tell a story of their own. See it here as documented by Alex Motta.

In Mancy’s words…

The meeting.

Adrian and I met on the 13th of December, 2015 while both working for a touring company. He was the allocated driver to the trip and I the trip leader. We met at the Port of Calais, where we then took a group of 40 or so passengers for a tour around Europe (some of which their first overseas trip) spanning 24 days and it so happens that was also my first white Christmas! We stayed in contact after the trip and got together six months later and continued working/traveling throughout Europe before making the move back to Australia.

The ‘one’.

Haha… I think I knew Adrian was the one when we were spending the day in Venice and he bought me tonic water (which is one of my favourite drinks) without me asking and I had been craving one that whole day and that’s when I knew he just ‘gets me’ and my weird ways. If you ask Adrian the same question he’ll tell you that he always knew that I was ‘the one’ for him.

The proposal.

To be honest this part is really special to me, to us, and we’ve both made a pact to keep it just between ourselves… but I will say it involved a city that is very special to us.

The process.

I am smiling at this question because we really only had six months to plan the whole thing and we were both very relaxed about everything. We knew we only wanted 50 people in total of our friends and family, and we wanted a venue to stand out so that we didn’t have to have too much in terms of decorations. We also knew we wanted to invest a lot in a good photographer, videographer, florist and the rest are just small details. Once we locked those parts in the rest was surprisingly easy to organise. We were both very laidback in the lead up to our wedding and really just wanted the night to be about our guests and our time together with them.

Style inspiration.

We wanted it to be simple, classic and it had to involve Latin R&B music as we’re both big fans and let’s admit it… Latin music gets everyone in a good mood! We chose the venue as it reminded us of the Palace of Versailles in France, and it made us feel like we had a piece of Europe in Australia which was perfect given we fell in love in Europe and now live in Australia. As the venue itself is already stunning, we didn’t want to do ‘too much’ on top and we just wanted to incorporate flowers which shared similar colours to some of the features of the room which would bring out the room even more in photos. I chose Vivien from Flos Botanical Studios to do my flowers because Viv just understood me and the vibe I was going for !

The dress.

Haha I actually borrowed my dress from my gorgeous friend Bella as I fell love with it on her wedding day. If the dress hadn’t fit so well, my backup option would have been Jane Hill. For my shoes I went with Badgley Mischka as I fell in love with the shoes before I even found my dress.

Favourite moments.

Definitely being with my closest family and friends. There is nothing more important to me in the world than spending time with the ones I love. Oh and possibly dancing to Latin R&B music all night !

Meaning of marriage.

Friendship, love, patience and understanding…and someone who’ll always be there to listen to you… no matter if you make sense or not.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Acoustic cover version of Can’t Stop The Feeling! by Sofia Karlberg.

Reception Entry: Versace on the floor by Bruno Mars.

First Dance: Stand by me cover by Tracy Chapman, remixed into Despacito (remix) by Luis Fonsi

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Yes ! Adrian is a twin and so we flew his brother from Europe down to Australia for our wedding and only my family knew as I really wanted to surprise my friends. On our wedding day I asked my friends to all meet up before the ceremony at the St Kilda rose garden and rather than walking in to greet them with Adrian, I walked in with his twin brother Alex to see if anyone would notice… the looks on some of their faces when they were wondering if they’re hugging Adrian or not was GOLD !

Planning surprises.

I was very surprised by the amount of talented people out there… it was very hard to choose suppliers for so many things and not being able to choose them all made it very hard !

Words of wisdom.

A wedding doesn’t need to be over the top with decorations to be ‘perfect’. When you look back, you’ll always remember the moments you shared with the ones you love than the other details you may have been stressing over pre-wedding. So relax, sit back and enjoy the whole process because it’s gone before you know it.

Last words…

To be honest the day couldn’t be more perfect… we had sun, rain and lots of laughs throughout the day with the people we were with and right before the ceremony kicked off we took time to enjoy a delicious coffee which is definitely a highlight of the day! To the small things in life that bring you happiness!
