Real Wedding – Marika & Will, Kangaroo Valley VIC

When you know, you know, and Marika knew she would marry Will within two short weeks of dating him. A life full of adventure led them to their wedding day, hosted at Inglewood Estate the stunning country side of Kangaroo Valley.

Planning the wedding was no hard task for event manager Marika. The styling was chic and rustic and featured all the elements of an epic celebration; unicorn included! Photographer, Mr Wigley was there to capture the love and fun factor!

In Marika’s words…

The meeting.

We met during 2010 while we were both working on Hamilton Island. I was 18 and Will was 20.

The ‘one’.

Two weeks in, I called Mum and Dad and told them I’d met my husband. No doubt they were on Island one week later to meet him!

The proposal.

Will sent me on a treasure hunt in central park NYC, ending on Bow bridge where he popped the question. He had incorporated our eight best friends with the proposal, all giving me my next clue.

The planning.

The planning was simple! Will proposed 2015 and we got married 2017. I’m an event manager but my wedding has been planned since I was 12, which made every decision really easy for me.

Style inspiration.

We both love the outdoors. Will grew up in Kinglake, Victoria and I was lucky enough to have the best of both worlds living in Sydney but my family owning a rural property in the South West. We both wanted a green, farm-like venue. We wanted our ceremony and reception to be on the one property; that was a non-negotiable for us.

The dress.

The dress was so incredibly easy! I saw Suzanne Harward at a trade show so stalked their website daily for a month while it was being upgraded. Finally, I got on and there she was, “The Blake”.  I called and spoke with Carly and basically told her that’s my dress! We met the following weekend at the establishment in Sydney to seal the deal.

Favourite moment(s).

My favourite part of the day was the ceremony; dancing down the aisle to Jamiroquai with my dad and seeing Wills face!

Traditions.

Our wedding just like us was not very traditional. However, we did spend the night before apart and I had the most fun sleepover with my gal pals.

The meaning of marriage.

Marriage is making a formal commitment to the one you love. We have basically been “married” since day one but now people can actually spell my last name. Yay!

Wedding soundtrack.

The best soundtrack ever!
You give me something by Jamiroquai
This girl by Kungs
Sun don’t shine by Sonnetanz Klankarussell

Funny stories/ near disasters.

I lost my voice entirely from Wednesday to Friday before the wedding and I pulled my back on the Friday. I did every single remedy you can think of, whispered for two days and had three physiotherapy appointments on Friday; not fun! Will also was late to the ceremony due to a series of unfortunate events and he’s honestly the most punctual person I know! Our amazing celebrant called my dad and told us to have a drink at the reception area before coming to the ceremony. I had no idea until I saw Will and the groomsman running down the hill to the chapel through the window!

Planning surprises.

Not really, one of my bridesmaids had an accident and gained a bit of weight and we figured this out one week prior to wedding. The girls at Shona Joy were so great in exchanging and ensuring it got to my friend in time!

Words of wisdom.

Enjoy the planning. The day goes so quickly!
