Real Wedding – Montana & Mitch, Riddles Creek VIC
At a private property in Riddells Creek, Montana and Mitch sealed the deal with a boho/festival styled wedding.
Everywhere you turned there were heartfelt handmade touches that represented these laid back lovers perfectly. What resulted was an effortless celebration as they said goodbye to tradition and hello to focusing on family, friends and creating a good time. They celebrated the day in exactly the way they imagined and LJM Photography captured all the magic moments.
In Montana’s words…
The meeting.
We met in 2006 at a hardcore concert called Deadfest. We were 15! Sparks flew but unfortunately we were just kids at the time. After a year or so we lost contact until five years ago. The chemistry was still there and we lived together within a week.
The proposal
We have always made a big deal of our anniversaries. It was Mitchell’s turn to organise our fourth year of celebrations. Being a musical buff, he had booked tickets to The Lion King after a lovely dinner. He was extremely nervous and snappy throughout the evening, I thought he must have been unwell. When the cast did their final curtain call, Mitchell grabbed my hand and started rushing me out the front. Mitchell had arranged a horse and carriage to take us back to our hotel. It was during this ride, Mitchell popped the question. My response was extremely untraditional and the ‘Yes’ was surrounded by some colourful words. It was definitely a surprise.
Style inspiration.
Our wedding was hosted at Mitchell’s father’s property in Riddells Creek Victoria. This family home has been a huge part of our relationship. We find ourselves visiting at least once a week therefore it felt natural.
Mitchell and I are both really laid back individuals. We wanted the day to seem personal and effortless. We ended up going with a boho/festival theme which included many handmade decorations and our favourite food truck. Mitchell and I did not want a formal reception where guests were seated for majority of the evening. Therefore a Burger Truck seemed like a brilliant idea. We had the bar flowing and our guests were able to sit on scattered seats or hay barrels. Everywhere you looked, there was something handmade; cakes, backdrops, guest bench, decorations even dress’. It was perfect and exactly what we wanted.
The dress.
I wore a very untraditional wedding dress, in fact it wasn’t from a Bridal store at all. I purchased my dress from Bariano in a shopping complex. It was the first dress I had tried on since being engaged and I purchased on the spot. My shoes were Jimmy Choo. I had recently been to Italy for work and I could not resist bringing these home for the big day.
Words of wisdom.
We organised our wedding in under six months and it was the best way to go. There was no time to overthink things.
Focus on what you love and make sure that comes through on the day. For example, I love letting my hair down and dancing therefore that is exactly what I did the whole night. Mitchell on the other hand loves socialising therefore he worked the floor on our behalf. Haha!
When people tell you the day goes so quickly and not to take it for granted, listen to them. It was the best day of our lives and I just wish we took more time to soak in the amazing people around us and spent a little more time alone as a newly married couple.
If a private property weddings are your style, Jade and Michael’s day is a winner.
