Real Wedding – Prue & Nick, Yarra Valley VIC

Prue will never forget the first moment she lay eyes on her groom Nick as she made her way down the aisle in the magnificent chapel at Stones of the Yarra Valley. Surrounded by their family and friends –  the love, the smiles and the laughter were endless as they celebrated their love story.

While they allowed the stunning setting of the venue speak for itself, their floral installation by Ivory Tribe favourites Moss Industry was a standout. Surrounded by their favourite people, they created a loved-up vibe that was hard not to be swept up in and Love Katie + Sarah were there to capture it all.

IN PRUE’S WORDS…

The meeting.

We met in Queensland on a work conference, I was running late as usual, he pulled up a chair next to him and his opening line was ‘You look so much better with longer hair’.

The ‘one’.

Nick will say ‘The first time I met her’, however I will say based on the above he had a bit of work to do.

The proposal.

It was a casual Sunday and we were meant to go for a picnic in the park but it was such a nice day he suggested we go out on the boat. Completely unsuspecting, we headed down, belting out a few tunes to Taylor Swift, off for an afternoon fish. I caught two fish on the one line and thought I’d hit the jackpot, however he yelled out ‘Quick, I’ve caught a bigger one!”.  I ran to the other end of the boat and he was down on one knee!  He had sneakily arranged his parents to organise prawns, nibbles, champagne etc and we spent the afternoon on the water, just us, dancing and singing before heading back in and celebrating with our families. It was the most magical day.

The planning.

We both have very similar tastes, and knew Stones was where we wanted to be married. Family friends, Vonnie & Steve Fraser, are the creative souls behind this beautiful venue and really made the entire lead up so seamless and enjoyable!  They really know how to organise a wedding! We thoroughly enjoyed the entire process and wish we could do it all over again!

Style inspiration.

We chose a venue which didn’t require a lot of styling, the bones of Stones are just so stunning on their own.  We just dressed our day with lots of candles, white flowers and crisp greens, beautiful glassware, organic woven table linen, rosemary sprigs and neutral place settings.  Elegant and…romantic.

The dress.

Like all girls, I had a vision in my head of what I ‘thought’ I wanted, which was so far from what I went with in the end! I trusted Kyha (of One Day Bridal) and I am so glad I did. She designed a truffle-coloured strapless gown, which was heavily beaded with lots of flowing material. I really did feel like a princess and I can’t thank her enough.

Favourite moments.

When the doors opened at the chapel I didn’t take my eyes off Nick the entire way down. I was just so excited to get to the end of the aisle and grab his hand. It is a moment in time that I will remember and cherish forever.

Traditions.

Not really, but we did choose to have our mum’s be our witnesses. We have such a beautiful relationship with the both of them, it was important to us that they were both included in our day in a special way.

The meaning of marriage.

We look at both of our parents and they share such loving relationships.   They have created such strong foundations for their families to grow and are great supports to each other.  Nick mentioned in his speech that we hope through the happiness of our own marriage we can repay them in some way for the upbringing and opportunities they have provided us. We can only strive to do the same for each other and our own family.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle – Stand by me  – Our friend Diane Robertson sang this on the day

Announcement Song – Hey Ho by The Lumineers

Reception Entry – Uptown Funk

First Dance – Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

Planning surprises.

I was surprised at how relaxed I was. My husband was such a calming influence in remembering that the day wasn’t about the flowers, the cake, the dress or the music (although they were all absolutely amazing). It was about the two of us becoming a family together and celebrating this with all of our beautiful family and friends.

Words of wisdom.

Enjoy the process, involve each other, delegate what you can and remember that it’s one of the most exciting times in both of your lives… the little things just don’t matter! Have fun!
