Real Wedding – Rebecca & Christopher, Coldstream VIC

Bec and Chris’s story is one that is becoming more and more familiar since Covid, but is still not an easy one. After cancelling their wedding six days out due to restrictions, these two gorgeous souls reassessed and decided the most important thing was becoming husband and wife.

Nine months later, their dreams were realised in the most stunning of days; an intimate, stylish affair, elegantly encompassing their vision of less is more.

Bec’s gorgeous gown by Marquis bridal was perfection in sleek lines embellished with beautiful beading. The bridal party’s timeless ebony outfits provided a striking contrast against the lush woodland surrounds, without detracting from the delicate detailing throughout the venue.

Watching Bec and Chris’s day unfold through the lens of tribe talent Fern & Stone is an exquisite reminder that in the end, love wins!

The meeting.

Although we grew up in the same suburb, lived about 500 meters away from each other, and caught the same school bus, we didn’t meet until we were 18, 11 years ago. My cousin introduced us at a local bar, Chris offered to buy me a drink, we got chatting and then numbers were exchanged.

The one.

We met so long ago I can’t really remember the exact moment I knew I had found the one.  Our relationship developed really easily, there were no games, and our love has continued to grow stronger from day one. We have known for a long time that we were in this together forever.

The proposal.

Chris surprised me with a night away in the city.  I was in the hotel room pouring myself a champagne, I turned around and Chris was on one knee and asked me to marry him.

The planning process.

Due to Covid-19 we have had to plan three weddings, finally getting married was third time lucky!

I really enjoyed the planning process for our original date in March 2020. I am quite an organized person and love to-do lists so this really helped. We used suppliers who had worked at our venue before and this made it really easy to work with them.

We had to cancel our original wedding six days out. To say we were devastated is an understatement, all our hopes and dreams were taken from us in such a short time. We postponed until October 2020 and then had to postpone again until November 27 2020.

Although the wedding planning process has been really hard for us as we had to plan everything with the hope that all will be okay. This really made us realize that all that mattered was that we were married and became husband and wife. All the finer details really didn’t matter.

Style inspiration.

We picked Coombe as we loved that we didn’t have to do much, as it’s such a lovely venue and the gardens are so pretty. Our vision was less is more and we wanted to keep everything very classic.

The outfit.

I really wanted to be comfortable in my dress and be able to dance freely. I found dresses with a split much more comfortable and suited me best. I also wanted to enjoy my whole dress fitting experience and Meghan at Marquise bridal was amazing and made me love the experience from the moment I stepped through their door.

Favourite moment.

Chris and I went out for sunset photos during our reception. This was such a special time to process the day and to come to terms that after eight months of waiting we were finally married. It was also so nice to have time just us two, I would highly recommend this for all future couples.

Meaning of marriage.

We knew for a long time we were going to be together forever, so marriage was a formal commitment we could make to each other in front of our closest family and friends. Marriage means to us to love unconditionally and support each other in good and hard times. Be each other’s strength when needed and encourage each other to be the best versions of ourselves.

Getting married was an opportunity to celebrate our success and the strength of our relationship.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Here comes the sun by The Beatles

Reception entry: You make my dreams (come true) by Daryl Hall and John Oates

First dance: When you say nothing at all by Ronan Keating

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Fortunately, no near disasters on the day, although the weather was really hot. We ended up having a 37 degree day and the boys were very hot in their suits. We were lucky the venue took control, cut short our outdoor canapes to ensure our guest got inside earlier and everyone had enough water to keep hydrated.

Planning surprises.

I guess after having to postpone and reschedule our day three times, nothing really took us by surprise. We took everything in our stride, because nothing was worse than having to cancel our wedding again.

Words of wisdom.

Remember, that what is most important is that both of you and your close family are healthy and safe on your special day, that is all that matters.

Final words.

All the couples planning weddings during the Covid-19 pandemic are amazing, if you can get through this you will get through anything life throws at you! You are entering married life so much stronger for it.
