Real Wedding – Richard & Blair, Trentham VIC

High school sweethearts Richard and Blair drew inspiration from their gorgeous wedding venue, choosing to keep their styling simple and natural, and really just let their love and the sweet surrounds do the talking.

Their dream day came together with the help of a A-Team of suppliers and together with some special, sentimental moments shared with their loved ones, this celebration made for their very best day yet.

Captured by Jai of Free The Bird, this day is nothing short of breathtaking.

The meeting.

We are high school sweethearts. We started dating in year 10 and haven’t been able to get rid of each other since.

The ‘one’.

When I realised he would always go along with my crazy travel plans and knew to keep me caffeinated.

The proposal.

We had gone away a few weeks before we got engaged, so when Richard asked for another weekend away I was reluctant because of work. We got into a fight about it and ended up going away anyway. Little did I know he had planned to propose in the weeks before however my ring was stuck in customs.

We went away to Queenscliff, were we had taken our first trip together. We were staying at a cute little B&B and looking back Richard was trying to be romantic with wine, walks on the beach or sit out on the porch and I was having none of it as I wasn’t feeling great, so I hopped into my PJS which is when he proposed. I was not expecting it.

The process.

We had a lot of time to plan – we were renovating, travelling and studying at the time we got engaged, and those took priority. We had time to think about what we wanted from the day and when we seriously started planning, lots of false starts, what made everything fall into place was how amazing all our suppliers were. They made the whole process easy and enjoyable. We couldn’t not have asked for a better team of talented people.

Style inspiration.

The venue was so beautiful we wanted it to be the standout so kept it simple with natural elements.

The dress.

My goal was to be comfortable and feel amazing and that is exactly what I got. Buying the dress online was a little nerve racking however the dress arrived immaculate and fit perfectly no alterations needed.

Favourite moments.

We loved that we decided to write our own vows, it just made our ceremony that much more special.

My grandparents also signing our certificate, we are sharing their anniversary and loved that we get to share that with them, they were celebrating their 62nd wedding anniversary. Whilst signing our certificate my Pa told me I looked like a film star, best compliment ever.

Meaning of marriage.

Having been together, living and travelling together for 13 years, before we were married, I don’t think marriage has changed us – but the wedding was a special way to celebrate our commitment to each other and the life we have created together with our loved ones

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle – Turning Page – Sleeping at Last

First dance – Feels Like Home – Chantal Kreviazuk

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Our first dance and father-daughter dance I really wanted to have outside under the twinkling lights. However, the train on my dress become a mini forest. Between each dance I had all our guests pulling sticks, leaves and at one point a full branch out of my dress. As we were finishing our first dance, we had a spin planned. As I was spinning my jacket got caught on Richards belt and we ended up stuck together.

Planning surprises.

Getting caught up and stressing over the little things. We at one point were obsessed over the favors, until we realized that’s not what everyone is there for and brought it back to keeping it simple.

Words of wisdom.

Really think about what is important to you both for the day. We knew we wanted great food and amazing photos so that’s where our budget and efforts went. Also pick a team of suppliers and bridal party that makes you not worry or think about the little details as you know they have it.

Final words.

We can’t say enough positive things about all our vendors/suppliers. They were the best.
