Real Wedding – Rory & Kate, Weatherboard VIC

Kate and Rory’s day was a festival of colour filled with their favourite people.

They created an entirely outdoor affair to celebrate their I-Do’s, and from finding their outfits online right before the big day, to the smiles that didn’t leave their faces – you get a real sense for how these relaxed lovers prioritised the party of a lifetime.

With a focus on fab food, they enlisted the help of one of our favourite food trucks, The Gypsy’s Lunchbox, who had their guests feasting on delectable delights well into the night.

Captured by another of our faves, the effervescent Nikki McCrone Photography, Kate and Rory’s colour-filled and heartfelt wedding is a feast for the senses – see it now.

The meeting.

Rory and I met through mutual friends at JDs-a sports bar in Ballarat.

The ‘one’.

It sounds cliche but we fell pretty hard, pretty quickly. It didn’t take long for us to know that this was it, it was just a matter of when we were going to make it official.

The proposal.

We spent a weekend away at the beach, and Rory proposed at the place that he described as the place he first knew he loved me. It happened on a picnic rug looking over the ocean with our dog Louie.

Planning process.

We decided on a date and went from there. We planned our wedding in less than 7 months, using inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest. We wanted to try and DIY as much as we could. Jill (Rory’s mum) put together our stunning flowers and they were one of my favourite aspects of the wedding. Our parents made a lot of the decorations, and it was fun getting creative with them.

Style inspiration.

We didn’t have a specific style leading up to the day, but looking back on photos, everything came together really well. We wanted a pink theme, bright florals and rustic decor.

The ceremony.

It was special because we were surrounded by the people we love, and those who weren’t with us were there in spirit. We had some very special people walking down the aisle with us, our good friend Tom holding Vivienne-his daughter-our flower girl, and Rory’s two nephews Banjo and Rafferty with their Mum and Grandma, Cyndi and Jill. My Dad walked me down the aisle and we had some very special friends stand alongside us for the ceremony.

The outfits.

I actually bought my Needle and Thread dress a few weeks before the wedding off ASOS, I wanted something a little bit different and non-traditional. When I tried it on, I knew it was perfect for me. Rory also bought his suit jacket online from M.J Bale and it also suited him perfectly.

Favourite moment.

Our favourite moment was during the first dance, everyone swarmed onto the dance floor and danced with us. It felt very special to be surrounded by all the people we love having a good time.

Meaning of marriage.

Committing yourself to a relationship with the one you love. Sharing a life together-even the most mundane aspects of life become joyful when they’re done with someone you love.

Wedding soundtrack.

The bridesmaids, flower girl and page boys all walked up the aisle to the Teskey Brothers: Forever you and Me. I walked up the aisle to an acoustic version of Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Our first dance was Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer-this got everyone on the dancefloor with us!

Words of wisdom.

Just try to remember and focus on why you are doing this in the first place. At the end of the day it’s a celebration of the love you and your partner have for each other, and that’s all that matters.
