Real wedding – Sarah and Jarryd, Ripponlea VIC

Sarah and Jarryd’s classic inner-Melbourne soiree was breathtakingly beautiful and for all who shared in it, one to remember.

The laid-back lovers banded together a Tribe of incredible suppliers to bring their dream day to life, and with sublime styling by Tori Allen Events and a dance floor to remember, it couldn’t have been more perfect.

Sarah was an absolute vision in her stunning backless gown by One Day Bridal and Blumenthal Photography were there to capture the magic of the day that has taken our breath away.

IN SARAH’S WORDS…

The meeting.

I remember meeting Jarryd when I was about 15 years old and he must of just turned 18. We grew up crossing paths, through school competitions; different sporting events and our fathers even played football against each other many years ago. However, we met properly for the first time on New Years Eve (2008). For many months prior to our New Years reunion I was away on a gap year in London. Jarryd instigated the conversation; I think it was via Facebook, or MySpace messaging. We would chat all week and it wasn’t until about eight or nine months later when I returned to Australia that we met properly in Inverloch. It was ridiculous how nervous we both were considering we had been speaking for so long.

The one.

In all honesty, there was never one moment where I thought ‘oh, you are the one’. Definitely over the course of our 7-year relationship where we have grown from immature selfish young kids into adults (most of the time) and I grew to understand what it was I was after in a life partner, Jarryd possessed all of the values and qualities I loved in a person. So over the years, I knew Jarryd was my future.

The proposal.

I love telling this story!!!! Firstly, to understand us, we are very relaxed, no fuss kind of people. We walk our beautiful dog to relax, and debrief on our days. So this particular day I waited until he got home to walk the dog together. We set off, and he’s not talking to me… Very YES/NO answers and I was getting a bit frustrated with this. I couldn’t work out what was wrong with him, so as a female does I start to drag my feet and lag behind (basically, I was sulking). We go down a little path to get to an area we like to let our dog off and he grabs me, I thought he was joking he said ‘I have something to ask you’. I freak out, is this a joke? He proceeds to get down on one knee, and I can’t believe this was happening; I was in complete and utter shock. I had to just sit down and it took about 10minutes to sink in. I truly had not expected the proposal, heavens forbid if were at a restaurant or around others because after it sunk in I was hysterical, uncontrollably crying to the point Jarryd said ‘S, we should really get home, it looks a bit like we have just had a break up chat’. We rang friends and family on our way home and within 20minutes so many of our best friends and family were at our place celebrating with us. The happiness I felt on this day I had never felt before…. Until our wedding day.

The planning.

Jarryd and I are extremely relaxed and laid-back people, and although I wanted the most perfect day, I never wanted the process to become overly stressful and consuming. With this in mind, I knew I had to source out the best team suited to us, and people we could work easily alongside.

We were so lucky to work with a number of fantastic people we already knew like our great friends Sam (suits) and Kyha (wedding gown). We also met some wonderful people along the way; our beautiful celebrant Sally, the staff at Rippon Lea, Carilyn and Darcy,  Sonia at Blumenthal and of course Tori, our stylist, just to name a few. Everyone we worked with became our friends. We noticed that everyone was genuinely invested in our day and only wanted what was best for us.

At times it certainly was overwhelming but Jarryd involved himself quite a lot and helped me out when I really needed it.

Style inspiration.

Introducing Tori Allen and her magical team at Tori Allen Events.

Our wedding was set in the Rippon Lea House & Gardens and we opted for a relaxed service and wanted nothing too formal, with the styling to reflect this. From the lush greenery to the fresh white blooms, the custom designed signage throughout, the balloons in the pool and our incredible neon sign – everything was exactly how we imagined. It was perfect, so elegant and chic.

The gown.

I was completely spoilt in a sense where I was able to not only work with one of the best wedding dress designers in the country but I was also able to work along side my wonderful girlfriend Kyha.

Kyha and the One Day Bridal team were superb and made the whole experience easy and so perfect. Originally, I was unsure and a bit overwhelmed but understood my likes and dislikes. I kept coming back to a picture of a dress I had found online, which was understatedly beautiful. It was very simple, but elegant, no frills or sequins but I knew the dress embodied me, and my style. The dress Kyha and her team created was clean, beautifully fitted but dramatic. The skirt and belt gave the dress the lift it needed to go from simple and elegant to something that little bit more special.

Favourite moments.

There were so many favorite moments throughout the day, of course walking down the aisle with my wonderful dad, seeing Jarryd standing there and waiting for me with a huge smile on his face. Also our first dance was really beautiful and special; a moment and a feeling I will cherish forever.

Special little touches.

My 90-year-old grandmother made our wedding cake along with some help from my mum, which was an incredible effort and meant so much to us both.

At one point most of our friends and family were on the dance floor, having the best time. This was after the speeches and our first dance so all the serious stuff was was over with and I remember feeling so happy that all of our most treasured people were having so much fun.

Traditions in your day.

My mother had my great-grandmother’s wedding ring melted down into a gold pendant, with my new initials engraved on it. It was pinned to my dress and this was representative of something ‘old’. I love that my mum did something so special, and thoughtful and if the opportunity arises where I could do the same for a daughter I would definitely love to continue this on as a tradition.

Meaning of marriage.

Being married is so much fun, it’s the start of our life together. I can’t wait to start a family with Jarryd, to enjoy all of life’s experiences and to grow old together. I know that marriage will not be easy, and we will have our struggles but there is no one else I would rather face the struggles with than Jarryd.

Name your wedding soundtrack.

Aisle song: James Vincent McMorrow – Higher Love

Reception Entry:  Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne – Real Love

First Dance: London Grammar – Strong Remix

Funny stories (or near disasters).

We couldn’t of asked for a better day, sunny and 26. BUT rain did come, about 11/11:30pm. I thought it was amazing; everyone was dancing (undercover) and it was pouring rain and with all the lighting and the pool it was magical.

I definitely don’t think it was a disaster it was just something that perhaps could have been a negative but in fact it made the night that much more special.

Words of wisdom.

Invest in a quality DJ and band; it sets the tone for the day/night.

Last words.

Enjoy every minute, from the planning to the wedding day!!!!!
