Real Wedding – Shannyn & Ash, Spring Hill VIC

Armed with a vision of a festival-style celebration that felt rustic, relaxed and unique to them, Shannyn and Ash pulled together an impressive line-up of suppliers that saw the wedding day of their dreams come to life at the wonderful Camp David Farm.

Shannyn could barely contain her nerves as she took to the aisle in her glorious Grace Loves Lace gown, before an incredible moment of calm as she laid eyes on her husband-to-be and settled into a moving and memorable ceremony lead by celebrant Megan Thompson.

Surrounded by their loved one, their festival came to life and their ever-after started with a bang. They had one of the best in the biz behind the lens, so keep on scrolling and see Ash and Shannyn’s day as documented by Smith and Archer.

The meeting.

Seven years ago, we met at a local pub when Ash fed me a smooth pick up line. It was after I had picked a glass bottle up off the dancefloor so no one would fall over, and it worked!

The ‘one’.

It was a moment when we were just having the best fun in each other’s company, we could just be ourselves and I knew I would love to love this human forever!

The proposal.

Ash proposed on top of a mountain, ‘The Remarkables’ in Queenstown, New Zealand after he surprised me with a holiday for my birthday. Surrounded by the most amazing view you can ever imagine, we have the best memories from this moment and what a way to remember it, Ash had a sneaky photographer there capturing it. I had no idea about the whole thing!

Planning process.

The planning process was a bit of a roller coaster for me, sometimes I absolutely loved it, and sometimes I couldn’t be bothered and would stress myself out, because I am such a perfectionist! Once we had all the main aspects locked in it was fun to plan and come up with unique ideas for styling etc. with Ash and the family!

Style inspiration.

Once we laid our eyes on the venue at Camp David Farm, we were so happy and knew it was just perfect as it fit Ash and I to a tee. We just wanted a big party to celebrate with our family and friends, so our vision was a festival type feel, rustic, unique and relaxed.

The outfit.

I knew always I wanted lace and lots of it for my wedding dress.  Once I came across Grace Loves Lace, I was in absolute awe of every single dress they made. I originally had their long sleeve lace gowns in my head and I basically had chosen one just from a photo. As Grace Loves Lace’s Australian Showroom was on the Gold Coast at that time, my Mum, Maid of Honour and bridesmaids stood with me in the rain for hours lining up to get into their Melbourne sample sale to determine if ‘the one’ in my head was actually ‘the one’. It turned out it wasn’t, but I was so very happy to have found two that I loved. I then visited the Grace Loves Lace Showroom on the Gold Coast later with my mum and sister and decided the Verdelle 2.0 was ‘the one’ for me, as we called it the Stevie Nicks Dress!

Favourite moment.

There is way too many to choose from as the whole day was amazing from start to finish, though the feeling of calm that came over me once I saw Ash and got to hug him at the end of the aisle, was a beautiful moment. Before that I was so nervous, Dad had to hold me back from running down the aisle!

Meaning of marriage.

Two hearts that share a one-of-a-kind connection, a team that has each other’s back with respect, loyalty and love for one another.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: (Bridesmaids) Going to California – Led Zeppelin (Bride) That’s the Way – Led Zeppelin

Signing: Pictures of You – The Cure

Reception Entry for Bridal Party: Hollaback Girl – Gwen Stefani

First Dance: Truly Madly Deeply – Yoke Lore

Father/Daughter Dance: Sara – Fleetwood Mac

Last Song: Romeo & Juliet – Dire Straits

Funny stories (or near disasters).

No disaster stories from the day as it was absolutely perfect in every way and everything went as planned. However, we did get food poisoning on our honeymoon, so we got to kick off our marriage by getting to know each other very well.

Planning surprises.

You can be the most organised person in the world, but there is always lots of things you can only do in the last couple weeks before the big day.

Words of wisdom.

I know you always hear it but enjoy every moment and really take a moment for the both of you to take it all in together, the time just flies! Also, do what you both want, it’s your day so make it everything that you both want and dream of – don’t let anyone else’s opinions get in the way!
