Real Wedding – Sophie & Adam, Toorak VIC

Simple and sophisticated, that was the brief for Sophie and Adam – and with an army of their favourite people by their side, their Toorak wedding day was all that and more.

Green and white colouring accented the whole she-bang, and from their traditional church ceremony, through to the momentous marquee celebration that followed, our very own Poni Studio worked her magic in planning the perfect party for this darling duo.

Sophie maintains she’s a girl rarely found out of her active wear, so it was important to her that she found a dress that was simple, timeless and above all else, comfortable. This was achieved by the team at Suzanne Harward and Sophie wowed her guests as she made her way down the aisle.

Captured by another Tribe favourite, in Jeremy Blode Photography, this one is gorgeous at every turn.

In Sophie’s words…

The meeting.

Adam is my older brother’s best friend. We have known each other for 14 years and had always been friends. Seven years from meeting we became boyfriend and girlfriend, and seven years later we are husband and wife!

The proposal.

We had just spent the week apart over Easter in 2020. Adam was in Tasmania and I was in Adelaide with family. We live in Sydney and he arrived home six hours before I did. He was very busy in those six hours, decking our apartment out with candles, balloons and fairy lights, and when I got home I walked in to a very special song of ours – Kiss me by Sixpence None The Richer  – playing when he proposed to me. It was a life highlight.

The process.

I didn’t find the planning process too stressful. As I didn’t have a vision in mind, we just decided what we liked, briefed the suppliers and then trusted them.

Style inspiration.

Simple and sophisticated. We went with green and white and kept the theme running throughout the whole wedding. Green foliage, white flowers, green napkins, green bridesmaid’s dresses, white marquee etc.

The dress.

I am the sort of girl who you will rarely find out of her active wear. In a wedding dress, all I wanted was something simple, timeless and comfortable. That is what my dress was.

Favourite moments.

Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing my husband-to-be!

Meaning of marriage.

To us, marriage is a journey, not a destination. And my husband is the perfect person to tackle life with.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Songbird by Eva Cassidy

Reception entry: This Will Be by Natalie Cole

First dance: Dancing in the moonlight by Top Loader

Planning surprises.

The attention to detail that was needed – Luci (of Poni Studio) provided this and was incredible. Things I had never thought of and they were taken care of before we knew about them.

Words of wisdom.

Before my wedding someone told me that on the day, even if you are stressed, pretend you are totally relaxed, as everyone reads your vibe. This couldn’t have been more true. Because we were relaxed, everyone was, and it made it a far more enjoyable day.

Also, get a Luci in your life… she is worth her weight in Gold.

SOPHIE & ADAM’S TRIBE

Ceremony location: St John’s Anglican Church, Toorak – The church is incredibly stunning.

Reception venue / location: Sophie’s parents home, Toorak.

Officiant: Peter French was our vicar. When we first met with him, we instantly clicked. He was humorous and modern. We had so many people tell us how fabulous he was in the ceremony, and he truly was.

Photography:  Jeremy Blode – how incredible is Jeremy!! From the moment we met him, his kind and gentle nature was exactly what we wanted on our wedding day.

We aren’t the type of couple of pose for photos, and we basically went about our day and he captured so many little moments that are so significant in hindsight. We now have the most incredible, candid and happy photos, photos that we look at and feel instant joy. Not once during the day did we feel awkward, or as though I had a camera in my face.

He was simply fabulous and I couldn’t recommend him any more highly, he will be shooting a lot of weddings for our friends and family, that’s for sure.

Videography: C2 films

Styling: Poni Studio – as I said above, not only was Luci our on-the-day co-ordinator, but our stylist and life saver. She recommended everything from the candles, to the napkin colour and set the tables for us while we were busy getting ready. She worked very closely with Alison from Hi Petal and made the whole day come together. The day before the wedding was 43 degrees, and Luci spent all day in the marquee getting set up. I don’t know how she did it, all with a smile on her face with her beautiful nature.

Florist: Hi Petal – Alison is one of the kindest and most humble people I have ever met, and an incredible florist.  I am not into flowers (before the wedding, couldn’t have told you what a hydrangea was) and gave her a very vague brief which was, “green and white and lots of foliage.”

What she produced was nothing short of incredible. When I walked into the marquee, I couldn’t believe it was my wedding, it was so stunning. She also worked tirelessly in the heat the day before, and when the flowers arrived at our door the next day, they looked incredible.

Alison really guided me through the whole process and what she produced was nothing short of incredible.

Alison and Luci are the dream team and worked so well together. For any bride, I would recommend getting them both, giving them a brief and letting them go to town. That’s exactly what I did and couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. One of my bridesmaids and is getting married in April, she watched them work their magic and booked them straight away!

Hair: Spencer and Co –Christian and Hannah came to our house the morning of the wedding. We all had natural wave/curls, which lasted all night and looked STUNNING on all the girls. They added fun and enjoyment to the morning of the wedding.

Make-up: Skye Isabella – Skye is not only the best makeup artist in Melbourne, but one of the kindest people. She was such a beautiful, calming and grounding energy on the day. All the girl’s makeup was stunning and lasted all night. The brief was natural and fresh, and she completely nailed it!

The dress: Suzanne Harward – Carli and Oliva were so much fun to work with, I felt really good in my dress on the big day.

Bridesmaid’s dresses: The girl’s dresses were from here, there and everywhere! Silk and green was the brief.

Shoes: Wittner – so comfortable and danced in them all night!

Rings: Avani on Glenferrie Rd – Gary made and engraved our wedding bands. He made a fantastic recommendation for the wedding band, with the dint to highlight my engagement ring and I adore it.

Groomsmen’s suits: Oscar Hunt

Catering: Treat Catering – they were incredible. James and Mark are pros! We asked for their suggestion on what works with food, and their suggestion of share food was perfect for our wedding. We wouldn’t have changed a thing. The food was delicious, everyone’s drinks were topped up all night. In our opinion, they are the best caters in Melbourne.

Cake: Phillipa Margetts Patisserie – WHAT A CAKE! Believe me when I say I love cake, and this cake was next level. Delicious and stunning. So many guests commented on what an amazing cake it was. It was a vanilla butter cake with raspberry compet, fresh strawberries, chocolate crunch and white vanilla buttercream. I might just order one for every anniversary yet…

Stationery: My dear friend, Amelia Stevens designed everything for me and was a dream to work with. She designed the most beautiful foliage which we carried through the whole wedding. She is truly a champion. Paperlust printed everything for us.

Entertainment: We used Rutherford Entertainment – Ben (DJ) and Nathan (Sax) really made the day go from wedding to party. They worked perfectly as a team, and we have had nine guests ask who they were so they can book them. What a duo, they really made it the perfect party. If you are having a wedding and want a party vibe, they should be your go-to.

Décor: Dalgarno’s – they were great and by far the most price competitive.

Hire: The Marquee People – again, the most competitive on price and were perfect to work with and delivered exactly what we wanted. Absolute legends
