Real Wedding – Stephanie & James, Red Hill VIC
Luckily for Stephanie and James, as the old adage goes, rain on your wedding day is a sign of good luck. The heavens opened up on their romantic Red Hill celebration, but it certainly didn’t stop them having the time of their lives.
Boho-luxe vibes underpinned their wedding day, with their wish-list of an open-air, outdoor ceremony and relaxed sit-down dinner to follow.
A monochrome-clad bridal party, soft and stylish florals and Stephanie in a luxe lace gown that wowed – it was a beautiful day, celebrated in their own special way.
See it here, as documented by Jason Vandermeer.
The meeting.
Eight years ago at our local pub, through friends.
The ‘one’.
I think I just knew, everything just felt right and real and we decided to move in together a year after dating.
The proposal.
James proposed at the lighthouse on the Great Ocean Road, he had this annual regional work trip which I tag along to and we made a weekend of it.
We had spent the day working, when on the way down to Lorne, where I thought we were staying for the night, James suggested to stop by the Airey’s Inlet lighthouse as he’d never been there before. That is where he dropped to one knee and popped the question. He then surprised me by staying the weekend at the famous Fairhaven pole house, including all my favourite food and drinks to celebrate our engagement.
Style inspiration.
So much inspiration off Instagram I would stumble across a blog like Ivory Tribe and then find myself on page after page via tags. I saved a heap of images then broke them down into categories/folders and that is how I put together my style for the day. I knew I wanted the bridal party in black and white and knew what type of florals I wanted, so we worked everything else around that. My florist described the style as luxe-boho. The tricky part was finding somewhere we could have an outside ceremony and open sit-down, yet relaxed vibe for reception, we ended up with two venues close by, it worked perfectly.
I also wrote lots of lists, they drove James crazy but we slowly made our way through it all making sure we had covered everything.
The dress.
Made With Love gown. I went to four bridal shops, I think I tried on about 60 dresses, had a lot of fun. My mum and sisters knew my dress was ‘the one’ when I first tried it on, I wasn’t 100 percent sure. I had a top two, and decided to hold off a few weeks then go back and try on the two, I immediately knew the Made With Love (Harley gown) was the one that day.
Favourite moments.
When it finally stopped raining (haha!).
The ceremony was my favourite part, seeing James for the first time, sharing my vows to him and hearing his, and just watching everything come together as we planned.
Meaning of marriage.
Making it official that you’ve found the person you want to celebrate and spend the rest of your days with, the one you can’t live without.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: I’m with you by Vance Joy
Reception entry: Million Voices by Otto knows
First dance: Never tear us apart by INXS
Funny stories (or near disasters).
The weather! Being mid February, we didn’t expect a wet, rainy day, but the week of, the forecast wasn’t looking good at all. There was no under cover option at our ceremony venue, so after a lot of phoning around we found the perfect marquee, surprisingly that was the only hiccup we encountered.
Planning surprises.
I think just the overall planning, there’s only so much you can plan so far in advance, myself being such an organised person, at times it was hard to sit back and wait until a few weeks before do to the last minute parts.
Words of wisdom.
Try not to over think everything, at the end of the day, you’re the only one that will notice and on the day it wont even matter because it’s the best day ever, regardless.
