With a winter wedding offer (25% off!) this should be your dream wedding destination of choice.

Where exactly is Spring Bay Mill located in beautiful Tasmania?

The Mill is located on the stunning east coast of lutruwita/Tasmania, in trayapana/Triabunna. Just over an hour’s drive up the coast from nipaluna/Hobart.

Tell us about Spring Bay Mill and how it came to be a spectacular and striking space for events?

Firstly, the Triabunna Wood Chip Mill was closed in 2011 and put up for sale because the business of logging and wood chipping had become unsustainable.

Later, two inspiring environmental philanthropists Anna Cerneaz and Graeme Wood bought the property with the desire to transform it into a new business that would create jobs, as well as rejuvenate and revive the environment – instead of harming it. The site is now a sustainable (financially and ecologically) events space that gives back to the local community with jobs, education and experiences.

Better yet, through improving the environment with our bold landscape regeneration mission and experienced horticulture team, it’s a beautiful place to visit.

We know that Spring Bay Mill has many spaces to celebrate a wedding day, can you share a little about each space as well as the capacity for each?

Banksia Room

The Banksia Room was up-cycled from the shell of the former wood chip mill admin building. It has stunning sea views, a large deck and indoor and outdoor fireplaces,

The Banksia Room is a large, multi-purpose space with a bar, lounge area and fully-equipped commercial kitchen, and can be arranged for dining, performance or presentations for up to 250 people.

It also has state-of-the-art digital audio-visual capabilities, Spotify business music and lighting control for creating an ambience to match your event.

Tin Shed

The Tin Shed was once the centre of the former wood chip production line. Now it’s the heart and soul of Spring Bay Mill. We preserved the rustic, industrial feel and added a few modern touches for comfort and convenience.

These include lighting, music and projection options, seating space for 250 people, and an outstanding natural acoustic, which make the Tin Shed ideal for live music and dancing. Its attached open-air deck and bar add sweeping sea views to the mix.

Amphitheatre

We up-cycled this dramatic outdoor semi-circular structure from the former slew wall that once formed part of the wood chip distribution system.

The Amphitheatre has wonderful natural acoustics and a sea view backdrop. At its centre sits one of the world’s largest sundials.

The round seats up to 250 people. But for larger, more casual seating, guests can use bean bags or deck chairs on the grassy hill. The Amphitheatre has single and 3 phase power – plus programmable lighting and high-speed internet.

Windlass Deck

Windlass bay is the perfect location for wedding ceremonies or contemplating big ideas. This stunning wooden deck overlooks Windlass Bay and Maria Island. Great to set with tables for outdoor dining or performances, or lay yoga mats down for morning meditation.

We also have a secret underground bunker, if you’re thinking of intimate wedding photos or a jazz bar?

What we love about Spring Bay Mill is that it provides accommodation for guests, a must for those seeking a destination wedding, can you share with us the accommodation options and how many you can accommodate?

We accommodate up to 100 people across our range of cosy eco accommodations. Our Ridge Quarters, Beach Shacks and Glamping Field are all designed for gathering and extending comfort and time with loved ones while offering a range of close-to-nature experiences. If more beds are required, we work with nearby accommodations and shuttles to help bring guests to and from the site.

Ridge Quarters

The Ridge Quarters challenge conventions of short-stay accommodation and offer both private and shared spaces with an indoor/outdoor feel and great views of the site and a feeling of being up in the trees.

This row of 12 double or single rooms, each with an adjacent private bathroom, has a communal kitchen, lounge and dining/work area, offering stylish and functional accommodation ideal for work colleagues, wedding guests or groups traveling together.

The adjacent Ridge Suite is self-contained with two double or twin rooms, a bathroom, kitchen and a living/dining area.

Beach Shacks

Our Beach Shacks overlook Windlass Bay and are stylish, comfy and close to nature.

They really are your own private getaway. The Beach Shacks are an ideal eco accommodation option for wedding parties, VIP guests at your event, or anyone who just wants a bit more space and privacy.

Features include kitchenette with cookware, utensils and tableware supplied. Queen-sized beds with luxury bedding. Private bathroom which we stock with cotton towels and eco-friendly toiletries.

Add a wood-burning stove or instant gas heater for winter warmth and a private deck with BBQ and (our favourite!) an outdoor bath for soaking and star gazing.

Glamping Field

We’ve designed each glamping tent to be a little oasis for guests to retreat to after a wedding. We have a range of spacious 3, 4 and 5m Lotus Belle canvas tents with king, queen or twin beds. All tents are tall enough to stand inside and are equipped with LED lighting, toiletries and warm luxury bedding.

Our communal camp kitchen has BBQs and fridges, a sheltered dining area, and a fire pit for warmth during your nightcap or morning cuppa. Close-to-nature outdoor showers, indoor showers and a toilet block complete our Glamping Field.

Lastly, the Glamping Field can sleep up to 60 guests in double or twin sharing.

What sets Spring Bay Mill apart is your focus on sustainability and that you’re eco-friendly. Can you share with us how you create eco-friendly events and why it’s so important to Spring Bay Mill.

Being a sustainable events venue means when guests come to the Mill, they become part of our regeneration story.

From up-cycled architecture to growing our own veggies in our expansive organic gardens, to habitat building and the environmental regeneration of the site, Spring Bay Mill is a place to experience and connect with nature – add state-of-the-art facilities, unique spaces and places, a great team to help design dream weddings that are unique every time.

Sustainability is not only at the core of everything we do, it’s the reason we exist in the first place.

A wonderful aspect of Spring Bay Mill is that you have onsite catering, can you tell us about what you offer couples when it comes to food and drink.

Our chef Michael Santamaria was born into a family of restaurateurs. He has a true passion for cooking and honed his skills working in restaurants in France, Sydney and Hobart.

Spring Bay Mill has outdoor BBQs, a commercial kitchen and a spit-roast fire pit, so fine dining, finger food or elaborate share platters are all great options. Michael works closely with our soon-to-be-newlyweds to design a perfect menu, matching how they love to connect over food.

Everything at the Mill is sustainably sourced and good for the soul, and nothing here goes to waste. Leftover summer produce is pickled, preserved, or fermented for the winter. Anything else is fed to our thriving worm farms – recycling every drop of nutrition back into the earth.

Spring Bay Mill offers some unique experiences (tree planting etc), we’d love to know how couples can incorporate these into their wedding celebrations.

We deepen our connections through shared experiences with each other – especially when those experiences take place in nature.

Just being at the Mill is an enriching experience, but we do love it when couples get their hands dirty. They can choose to incorporate any of our bespoke experiences (specially curated for all ages) before, during or after their wedding. We offer experiences in horticulture, Indigenous culture, history, walks and bike rides on Maria Island, private boat trips with our own vessel and lots more.

We like to make Spring Bay Mill weddings more than just a wedding day and give people something personal, shared and special to take home.

While many will love that you have incredible options for those wishing to host a wedding celebration outdoors, what about those who would like to have a romantic winter wedding, is Spring Bay Mill able to accommodate this?

While Spring Bay Mill is stunning in summer and spring, our range of warming interiors and industrial outdoor spaces dressed with fire-pits, fairy lights and wool blankets present a special, inviting winter atmosphere for those wanting to avoid the silly season.

We also think Winter Weddings mean more creativity, uniqueness, and more loved ones there because they’re not double-booked with other weddings and holidays.

Oh and we’re knocking 25% off venue hire for couples choosing the cooler season!

What kind of weddings suit Spring Bay Mill?

Spring Bay Mill is for people looking to do something different. Something more than just a wedding day. We offer the opportunity to create unique and lasting memories for you and all your loved ones.

Whether you want to stay in one of our private, stylish shacks and elope by the beach or party into the night with extended family and friends. We’ve got indoor and outdoor spaces, beaches, native gardens and a range of indoor/outdoors spaces in stunning industrial architecture.

It’s also a place for people who want their wedding to tread lightly on the earth. We can take the difficult decisions out of making sure your wedding is a sustainable one.

Are you able to assist couples with sourcing local suppliers to help celebrate their day?

Yes, our team is on board from start to finish to help couples plan their wedding at the Mill. We love supporting the local community by connecting our soon-to-be-newly-weds with the best vendors and suppliers of the east coast and broader lutruwita/Tasmania.

Do you offer site visits for prospective couples, and if so, how can couples book a visit in?

We invite couples to come to the Mill and learn about the site through a tour with our Events Manager. Because really, you have to see the site for yourself to know how amazing it really is.

Couples should enquire via our website. Then we can send an info pack and arrange a site visit.

Generally, what are the costs to host a wedding at Spring Bay Mill?

Because every wedding is different, we encourage contacting us to discuss wedding plans and packages and to arrange to come and see the site.
